When it comes to playing League of Legends, support players have a slew of champions they can choose from. There are three main categories for supports: enchanter, engage, and poke. Enchanter supports are characterized by their ability to buff teammates and themselves.

They use abilities that offer healing, shielding, speed boosts, and can also slow, silence, or debuff enemies in other ways at times. Enchanters can be particularly handy against poke supports by mitigating their damage with their shields and heals. However, they may struggle against engage supports because they suffer greatly from the all-ins those types of champions create.

12 Senna

True Damage Senna looking down upon the unworthy as she holds a hand out offering redemption, her massive gun on her back

Although Senna might not seem like an enchanter at first glance, what with her giant relic cannon and marksman capabilities, her abilities do have enchanter qualities to them. Take, for instance, her Piercing Darkness ability which heals allies targeted by it while damaging and slowing enemies. Her Curse of the Black Mist ability also camouflages her and her teammates, making any that leave its boundary appear as wraiths while simultaneously providing a speed boost.

Lastly, her ultimate, Dawning Shadow, damages enemies caught in the middle and shields her and her allies in the area of effect when cast. Although this support marksman is enchanting, there are still plenty of supports that fit this role better than The Redeemer.

11 Zilean

The Chronokeeper is usually played as a support, and although he can’t perform any shielding, he can provide other buffs and debuffs. When he lands two of his Time Bombs they stun and damage the enemies hit with them. His Time Warp Ability can provide a 99% movement speed buff to allies at max rank and afflict enemies with a slow of the same modifier.

His ultimate, Chronoshift, comes in real handy during a pinch as an ally that would take fatal damage is resurrected and healed. His passive, Time in a Bottle, also allows him to share stored experience with an ally, allowing them to level up and giving himself the same amount of experience. Despite these great effects, there are still more effective enchanters.

10 Taric

Armor of the Fifth Age Taric in all his majestic, outrageous beauty gazing off at someone as he holds his mallet

This outrageously gorgeous specimen of a man provides shields, heals, stuns, and invulnerability with his little gems. Starlight’s Touch heals Taric and nearby allies while Bastion gives a tethered ally a shield and bonus armor. If the tethered ally is farther away from the Shield of Valoran, the heal will still be granted to them.

When he wishes to Dazzle an enemy, they will be stunned if the sparkles connect with them. Lastly, when Taric shares his Cosmic Radiance, he and nearby allies become invulnerable for 2.5 seconds, which can really turn a fight at the right moment. Although this warden does his job well, there are other enchanters that have him beat.

9 Lulu

The Fae Sorceress Lulu in her Wicked Skin transforming people or things into little black cats with bows while she grins

The Fae Sorceress has a lot of versatility in her kit. She can halt a hard engage with a well-placed Whimsy, polymorphing a single foe into a harmless creature for a duration that stacks with the level of the spell. When cast on herself or an ally, Whimsy gives a sparkling boost of speed.

Her Glitterance slows enemy champions hit by 80% and deals some damage as well. With her Help, Pix! ability, Pix can deal damage to an enemy and reveal them for four seconds. However, if she casts the ability on herself or an ally, Pix grants them a shield.

Lastly, Lulu’s ultimate can heal herself or an ally, making them grow large and granting them bonus health, an aura that slows nearby enemies, and causes a knock up.

8 Yuumi

Battle Principal Yuumi raising a questioning eyebrow at whoever stepped in her office as she sits imposingly

Are you a cat-lover and adore when they have the zoomies? Well, Yuumi will heal you and give you some zoomies in the form of a speed boost! The Magical Cat is a loved and hated support because she is, well, a cat, but also because she can make any carry that is doing well difficult to kill.

Her You and Me! ability passively gives whoever she is anchored to bonus AD or AP but also makes them a single target in a duo-lane. Her Prowling projectile applies a slow, while her passive, Bop ‘n’ Block, gives this mana-hungry kitty some of that good blue stuff and generates a shield that transfers to her partner until it is broken. Her ultimate, Final Chapter, deals damage in seven waves, and if caught in three, enemies are rooted for 1.75 seconds.

7 Renata

The Chem-Baroness at the helm of combat watching the events unfold, a tank and warheads, resistance singed besides her

Although The Chem-Baroness is an enchanter that can shield, stun, and slow, she can also influence the enemy team to turn on each other and give an ally a second chance in a fight. She applies a shield with her Loyalty Program ability that also damages and slows enemies struck by it. Her Handshake stuns enemies if a champion caught by it is knocked into one or more of their allies.

Her Bailout ability is similar to the effect of the late Chemtech Drake which allows a teammate that would die to remain alive with decaying health, allowing them the chance to stay alive if they score a kill while the ability is active. Lastly, her Ultimate, Hostile Takeover, turns enemy minions and champions against one another with 100% bonus attack speed and a scaling duration. Definitely a champion you want to have as an ally, Renata is still outshone by other enchanters.

6 Janna

Crystal Rose Janna smiling mischeviously down at us as she holds a hand out for us to take, crystal flowers around her

The Storm’s Fury offers great shielding, healing, knock-ups and disengage. Her Howling Gale deals damage, provides a big knock-up, and slows when paired with the Glacial Augment rune. Her Zephyr damages and slows anyone struck by it while her Eye of the Storm can shield herself, allies, and even turrets.

Janna’s ultimate, Monsoon, knocks enemies back and provides an AOE heal to all within its boundary. Her passive, Tailwind, allows Janna to move faster towards teammates and for her teammates to move faster towards her. Though she can be a great ally, there are other enchanters who can do better and counter her.

5 Karma

Sun Goddess Karma spinning the morning with golden thread as the sun she creates rises over the ziggurats, she smiles

The Enlightened One can pack quite a punch, especially when building AP. Her ultimate, Mantra, empowers her abilities and gives them some extra oomph. Inner Flame is great for poking by dealing damage and slowing enemies, but when empowered it becomes a Soulflare that can deal a good bit of damage and creates a delayed AOE explosion.

Focused Resolve reveals enemies tethered to Karma and roots them if the channel is uninterrupted. When empowered, it becomes a tether of Renewal that heals the Ionian enchantress and increases the root duration. When Karma casts Inspire, either her or a teammate is shielded and given a speed boost.

4 Soraka

Night Bringer Soraka in her ashen glory offering us redemption with one hand while she raises another in condemnation

The Starchild is the queen of fat heals once she completes a Moonstone and Ardent Censer. Although her Astral Infusion uses her own HP to heal others, she can siphon some health from enemies hit by Starcall which deals damage, reveals an area, and slows those struck by it. Her Equinox creates an AOE silence that deals damage and roots those caught within after a delay.

Her ultimate, Wish, removes grievous wounds before applying a global heal to her teammates. Burst and poke champions are rendered nearly useless with Soraka there to heal her team, but there are some enchanters that still have her beat.

3 Sona

Disk Jockey Sona tearing it up on her turn tables as she smiles at us and bobs her head to her own sick beats, cool lights

With the strum of her etwahl, The Maven of the Strings empowers her teammates with her chords and debuffs with her passive, Power Chord. Her Hymn of Valor targets nearby enemies and deals damage to them, granting allies bonus magic damage with the melody bonus and empowering her next auto attack. Her Aria of Perseverance heals herself and the most wounded allies, shielding all within her aura and reducing a target’s size and damage when hit with the Power Chord.

Her Song of Celerity provides a speed boost to herself and those around her and can slow a target hit by her passive. Her ultimate, Crescendo, deals magic damage and stuns enemies struck by it, cooling down faster as Sona attacks and heals. A great enchanter indeed, Sona still falls a little short of the best.

2 Seraphine

Prestige Ocean Song Seraphine beneath the waves, light filtering gently down as she greets a fish, her hair swaying

Even though the Starry-Eyed Songstress was intended to be a mid-laner, many play her as a support. Her Beat Drop ability deals damage and slows enemies, rooting and stunning enemies that are already slowed. Enemies that are immobilized or grounded are instead stunned by this ability.

Her Surround Sound provides a shield and heals allies within its large, Redemption-like radius while her High Note deals damage based on a target’s missing health. Her Encore ultimate charms and slows enemies caught in its captivating force and continues when it passes through allies and enemies alike. Although she shines in team fights, only one other enchanter can upstage her.

1 Nami

Splendid Staff Nami admiring some cherry blossoms as she smiles at us demurely, her fishtail hidden in sparkling water

With her Aqua Prison and ultimate, Tidal Wave, the Tidecaller can CC enemies by knocking them up. Her passive, Surging Tides, allows all her abilities to speed up her allies, getting them into the fray faster. Her Tidecaller’s Blessing ability allows her or a teammate’s next three spells to do additional magic damage and slow their target for one second.

The Electrocute rune procs on Tidecaller’s Blessing if whoever is empowered with it deals damage to an enemy with three separate abilities within three seconds. Her Ebb and Flow heal deals damage and can bounce up to three times between allies and enemies making this Marai produce quite the splash as an enchantress.
