Mastercard and other brands will be represented in-game during this summers League of Legends Championship Series. Honestly, we're surprised something like this hasn't happened sooner.

In an effort to continue closing the gap between esports and real-life sports, League of Legends developer Riot Games will be including a new feature in Summoners Rift called Arena Banners.

Just as brands advertise all around the arena in football and baseball, brands will have the opportunity to show their logos off on banners all across Summoner's Rift during professional events.

Riot made the announcement on the watch.lolesports page today, saying that fans can expect to see brands "deeply integrate" with the game. Riot believes this change will not only be profitable for the game but will help create an environment that fans will see as a legitimate sport. Bridging the gap between sports and esports is a big part of Riot's mission with League of Legends and this is one way they're attempting to do that.

Thankfully, the players won't actually be able to see these banners. In order to maintain visual clarity and reduce confusion in the game, the advertisements will only be presented from the audience's point of view. To the players, the game will look just as it always has. Which begs the question, how will the players know which credit card to get?
