Former G2 Esports League of Legends star Luka “Perkz” Perković has officially signed with Cloud9, the American esports organization announced today. The Croatian star parted ways with G2 earlier this month, and now makes his first move to compete in the LCS. While previously playing in the AD carry position on G2, Perkz will return to the mid lane on Cloud9.

Perkz made his name while playing under the G2 banner, becoming one of the most successful League of Legends players in Europe. Perkz first joined the squad in 2015, and has donned the G2 jersey ever since. The 22-year-old has won eight domestic split titles since joining G2, including the last four consecutive seasons.

Perkz has competed in five World Championship events, reaching the play-off stage of the last three. G2 has finished in the top four of each of the last three Worlds events, even reaching the Grand Final in 2019. The team also won the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, becoming the first and only western team to do so.

G2 became an international threat with Perkz on the roster, bringing worldwide recognition to European League of Legends. While becoming known as a dominant mid laner, Perkz eventually made the switch to the AD carry position after the team signed former Fnatic mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther. The team, and Perkz, maintained their form even after the switch, locking in the Croatian player’s place as a League legend.

Perkz will now return to the mid lane with Cloud9. This is his first move to North America, where he will compete alongside former G2 teammate Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen. Should Cloud9 retain its current roster, the two willl be joined by Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami, Robert “Blaber” Huang, and Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme.

“It’s not every day you get to welcome a player of Perkz’s caliber to your team, so to say we’re excited is an understatement,” says Cloud9 general manager Jonathan Tran. “He has been a dominant force of competitive League of Legends since pretty much his first day of competition and we’re all looking forward to working closely with him.”

Cloud9 will return for the 2021 LCS season, which is expected to begin sometime early next year.
