Star AD carry Martin “Rekkles” Larsson has parted ways with Fnatic’s League of Legends team, the European esports organization announced yesterday. Rekkles has played under the Fnatic banner for most of his career, having most recently rejoined the organization in 2015. It is currently not clear where Rekkles will end up, or who Fnatic plans to fill the vacancy with.

Rekkles first joined Fnatic in 2012, eventually leaving the UK-based organization in 2013. He rejoined the team that same year, winning the 2014 European LCS Spring split and placing second in the Summer split before leaving once again. Rekkles played for a couple teams before landing with Fnatic again in 2015.

In the last five years with Fnatic, Rekkles has become one of the most well-known European League of Legends competitors. The Swedish star has won multiple domestic split titles with the team, and played in nearly every World Championship since rejoining the organization. Fnatic reached the Grand Final of the 2018 World Championship, the semi-finals of Worlds 2015, and the quarter-finals of Worlds 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Fnatic finished second in both the 2020 Spring and Summer LEC splits, each time falling to G2 Esports in the Final. The team’s been out of action since Worlds, where a narrow loss to Top Esports saw them get eliminated in the quarter-finals. AD carry Rekkles now moves on from Fnatic, with many speculating on where he will play next.

Many rumors point towards G2, who recently released their own star AD carry, Luka “Perkz” Perković, though no official announcement has been made. In the announcement post, Fnatic clarifies that Rekkles’ decision to leave was not based on financial gain.

The organization states that Rekkles had previously expressed interest in remaining with the squad, but that he “made the decision to move on.” The decision came after “the largest offer Fnatic has ever made to a player,” which included “long-term plans” for after his playing career.

Rekkles’ future team has not yet been announced. There is also no word on who Fnatic will sign to fill the AD carry role for the upcoming season. The LEC 2021 Spring split is expected to start sometime early next year.
