Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out to mostly good reviews from fans of the series. Even if one has reservations about the simple combat or implementation of RPG mechanics, the majority can agree that it's the best recent take on the DBZ story. That's why many players are already clamoring for the game to go beyond DBZ and into the events of Dragon Ball Super. If datamining efforts are to be believed, Bandai Namco plans on doing just that.

As things stand now, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot ends after the Buu Saga, just like the DBZ anime. Players are then able to free roam, find secrets, and collect the Dragon Balls. More content is confirmed, however, thanks to the existence of a season pass. It will include two "original story episodes" and "one "new story arc." If the anime's progression is followed, the next story arc should be the Battle of the Gods, when Beerus first comes to Earth. Indeed, Kakarot dataminers have found both Beerus and Whis in the game's files.

Beerus and Whis aren't just unfinished models or character portraits, either. Youtuber SLOplays entered Kakarot's debug mode and took both characters for a spin. They can move about the world fairly naturally, have unique combat animations, and, most importantly, have their own special attacks.

That last point is very important, as SLOplays points out. The modding community is already hard at work on Kakarot. Within a day someone had replaced Goku's model with that of a certain famous goose. However, that's about all modders can do. They stop at swapping one model for another – the goose still fights exactly like Goku. Beerus and Whis having their own signature moves is evidence that they legitimately exist in the game's code.

Bandai Namco has not announced the release date or content for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's DLC yet. However, Beerus and Whis' polished character models and animations make a strong case for at least one episode being based on Dragon Ball Super. If we're lucky, we might just get to play the tournament of power in a video game soon.
