New leaks suggest that the next installment in the Batman series will be a live-service Suicide Squad game.

In 2018, we were all quite rightly enamored by Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4. However, even though there have been good superhero games for decades, we should not forget how important Batman's Arkham series has been to the genre. Asylum, City, Origins, and Knight are all incredible games which gave us Batman fans the kind of accessibility to the franchise we always wanted.

Even though those four titles were each released two years apart, four years on from Arkham Knight and there are still rumors of the series continuing. While none of those rumors have come to fruition, the latest leaks have a stronger foundation than those that have turned out to be unfounded. Plus, they point to something that sounds extremely exciting.

According to Games Radar, WB Montreal is getting set to unveil a live-service Suicide Squad game to the world. According to the leaked materials, a trailer for the game will drop on June 4. The apparent focal point of the trailer will be infamous Batman villain R'as al Ghul. Ghul is one of Batman's fiercest foes in the DC Universe and has also had run-ins with Superman.

While the prospect of doing battle with Ghul is an exciting one, other information from the leaks suggest that he might be a playable character. The game is described as including "online multiplayer, loot, team-focused gameplay, branching storylines, and a release date of early 2020." We are already practically salivating at the chance to form our very own Suicide Squad and venture off on what sounds like something akin to the system used in Destiny 2.

The leaks have been (sort of) confirmed by a previously reputable source too. Kotaku's Jason Schrier, who has been accurate with these kinds of things in the past, replied "I wouldn't wanna spoil it" complete with wink emoji when asked if the arrival of a Suicide Squad game is imminent. We won't know for sure until WB Montreal decides to tell us, but if the leaks are correct, we only have a little more than a month to wait until the trailer drops.
