Inspirisles is an incoming tabletop RPG currently in the midst of its Kickstarter campaign, and one that you will hopefully be hearing a lot of positive things about in the future. With an end goal of $1,558, it funded in less than 10 hours, and of this writing, is sitting at almost $17,000 with 17 days left to go.

The Inspirisles Tabletop RPG is primarily aimed at teenage players, with a focus on helping them learn about and develop important life skills such as creativity, empathy, and teamwork. Additionally, Inspirisles will encourage deaf awareness among its players by helping them learn the art of sign language through its incorporation into gameplay as the somatic way spells are cast.

In Inspirisles, players roleplay as Foundlings in a world of fey, Arthurian legends, and Celtic folklore. As a Foundling, a human teenager called to the islands of the Inspired (deities), you begin your adventure as one who has been trained by one of seven of the fey clans known collectively as Friends (Bucca, Capra, Giantheld, Glow, Knockers, Piskies, and Wyrmbitten). An eighth fey clan, Glimmers, stay sheltered in their underground homes and decline to help Foundlings.

“Experiencing visions of a mythical land throughout your childhood, you are suddenly transported to the Inspirisles, a kingdom ruled by the fey. Responsible for a pact made long ago by your ancestors, you must now earn Belief and the respect of their gods or find yourself trapped there forever.”

In an attempt to escape the islands and return home, Foundlings must collect and wield Belief, the binding energy of the realm, and the keystone theme the Inspirisles RPG system is built on and around. With enough Belief, Foundlings can employ it in three distinct ways. One way is by making a pilgrimage to the World Tree in Avalon and offer up Belief to its roots in exchange for training. Another way is to provide for the fey clan that trained them, which earns them the benefit of exchanging Belief for items and equipment. Lastly, by being patrons to the Inspired, Foundlings may trade Belief for the ability to cast spells.

Spellcasting is called Shaping in Inspirisles, due in parts by the motions and methods of using hands in spellcasting, and for the way it shapes the world around the spellcaster. This is where Inspirisles integrates sign language into the game, through Shaping, and as a language used by the fey. The Inspirisles core sourcebook will come with an American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet sheet. British Sign Language (BSL) and Sign Supported English (SSE) will also be available as optional Shaping mechanics, and backing the core sourcebook will gain you access to an art of Shaping video workshop designed and enacted by members of the deaf community.
