Of all of the Valve titles that many want a third installment for, Left 4 Dead tends to be near the top of the list. Unfortunately, many rumors thus far have been debunked by Valve, though hope should not be given up yet, especially since Dying Light is now crossing over with Left 4 Dead 2.

Dying Light 2 may well be in development, but its predecessor has been consistently updated with features and events that have kept the original Dying Light alive and kicking. The most recent event features a crossover between Dying Light and the second installment of Left 4 Dead.

Its trailer is only half a minute long, but it features some enticing action and gameplay sure to give a rush of nostalgia to those who played Left 4 Dead 2 nearly a decade ago. It also might incentivize Left 4 Dead players to try out Dying Light as an alternative to the beloved cooperative zombie first-person shooter.

While the trailer doesn't feature any of the main characters from Left 4 Dead 2, such as Coach or Nick, nor the ability to play as zombies, it does reveal that some of Left 4 Dead 2's most memorable weapons will be available during the event. These weapons include the electric guitar, as well as the frying pan and golf club. Dying Light is also set to feature some of Left 4 Dead 2's guns, as the trailer shows a shotgun and machine gun from Left 4 Dead 2.

The crossover event will go from October 24th through October 28th, ending at 2:00 PM EST. As such, Left 4 Dead fans have a few days left to jump at the opportunity to experience Left 4 Dead 2 in the world of Dying Light.

All in all, this will likely be a neat event for Left 4 Dead fans. It may not offer the more beloved elements of Left 4 Dead 2, such as its characters or unique multiplayer modes, but it does bring back a dormant franchise whose return has been rumored on many occasions. Given Valve's history of not developing third installments, a Left 4 Dead 3 may not be in the cards for Valve, at least for a while. One can always hope, though.
