However, there are some items that are just as fantastic as these but don't get the same recognition. Some of these items are fun to use, some are extremely useful, and others are important to the game's story, but they don't get the same amount of love. Here are some of the underrated items from the Zelda series.

10 Tingle Bottle

wind waker tingle bottle

In the original version of the Wind Waker, there existed an item called the Tingle Tuner. It would go on to be replaced with the Tingle Bottle in the HD remake. This new bottle item isn't incredibly useful but it definitely provides something fun to the remake.

When connected to the internet, the player can find strange messages in bottles around Hyrule. they contain messages and pictures from the Miiverse. it just adds a bit of social connection when navigating the lonely world of the Great Sea, and every so often, a good chuckle. You can also make your own secret messages and leave them for other players to find!

9 Sand Rod

For years, fans have loved the Fire Rod and Ice Rod, which have become staples of the series. However, another rod, the Sand Rod, has also made a few appearances, and is more useful than it is given credit for.

This Rod has a few uses, like allowing the Hero to raise themself up to other platforms, to affect enemies, and to move things around. It doesn't sound incredibly useful, but it is! It appears in A Link Between Worlds and Spirit Tracks, as well as Hyrule Warriors.

8 Kinstones

green kinstone fusion minish cap

This next underrated item comes from one of the most underrated games in the series. Kinstones are strange artifacts in the Minish Cap that Link can collect. If he finds a Kinstone’s match somewhere in the world, he can fuse the two together with the person who holds the other half.

After fusing Kinstones, many different things can happen, including opening new areas, unlocking items, and more. It would be really cool to see Kinstones return in a future game.

7 Rod of Seasons

oracle of seasons rod of seasons

In one of the oldest games in the series, Oracle of Seasons, the player can obtain an item that features on the game’s official art, as it's one of the most important. The Rod of Seasons allows Link to change the seasons of the world at will.

This can unlock new areas, and serve other important functions. Besides its functionality, it is just inherently a cool item, allowing the player to see the world of Holodrum in winter, autumn, spring, or summer.

6 Spinner

twilight princess spinner

This next item is a very controversial one, with many in the series thinking it's rather useless, and others thinking it's fantastic. The spinner, found inside the Arbiter’s Grounds in Twilight Princess, basically perches Link on top of a giant spinning Beyblade.

He can then zip around on it, knocking foes away, and picking up speed on rails. It is definitely locked to niche usage, but it does provide for one of the coolest boss battles in series history.

5 Mask of Truth

If you're playing Ocarina of Time and find yourself stuck or a little lost, consider looking for the Mask of Truth. This cool item, which also appeared in Majora's Mask, allows the wearer to speak to Gossip Stones.

When speaking with these weird stones, Link and learn things about the surrounding area, hear gossip about the people of Hyrule, and receive hints about various aspects of the game. Despite its strange appearance, the mask is very useful, and definitely an underrated choice for those who are playing the game for the first time.

4 Shovels

It seems kind of strange, even dumb, according to some, that the hero of Hyrule can wield a shovel for digging up random objects in the ground. However, it's incredibly fun, and a classic item from the series.

First appearing in A Link to the Past, the shovel has resurfaced in a few other games, always serving basically the same purpose. It seems like a strange non -heroic item, but who doesn't love treasure-hunting?

3 Cane of Byrna

Nayru's Love is considered by some to be one of the best items in Ocarina of Time, rendering Link completely invincible to enemy attacks at the cost of magic power. However, years before the introduction of this item, there was another that served the same purpose.

In A Link to the Past, the Cane of Byrna would also make Link impervious to attack at the cost of magic power. As an optional item, it's not required to complete the game, but it's definitely worth picking up.

2 Gust Bellows

As an item with the primary purpose of blowing away sand and dust, the Gust Bellows from Skyward Sword can seem kind of dumb. However, it's actually a hilarious item that receives way more hate than it deserves.

When used on the various NPCs of Skyloft and other areas, the Gust Bellows will blast air in their face, causing them to be incredibly frazzled and thrown off. It's mean, but it's very, very funny. Besides that, it also provides for some cool mechanics and a fun boss fight.

1 Roc's Feather

links awakening remake switch rocs feather

The 3D Zelda games have recurring items like the bow and the Master Sword that serve as their recurring staple, but in many cases, there's actually another that has recurred throughout the world of the 2D Zelda games: the Roc’s Feather (or in some cases, the Roc’s Cape).

This strange feather appears in the Oracle games, Four Swords Adventures, and Link’s Awakening, while the Roc’s Cape appears in Four Swords, Oracle of Seasons, and the Minish Cap. They serve the same purpose — they allow Link to jump. This wouldn’t be seen in the 3D games until Breath of the Wild.
