The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has come storming out of the gate in the UK, as it has topped the sales chart during its first week of release.

The Nintendo Switch is only two years old but it has already received multiple entries in The Legend of Zelda series. The system launched with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as two spin-offs in the form of Cadence of Hyrule and Hyrule Warriors. The people who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online also have access to The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It has also been confirmed that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development.

The most recent entry in The Legend of Zelda series is a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakeningwhich was originally released on the Game Boy in 1993. The fact that the game is a remake of a handheld title that is old enough to drink and drive has done little to dimish the enthusiasm for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening among the British. It has debuted at number 1 on the UK sales chart, toppling Borderlands 3 from the top spot that it held the week before. According to GamesIndustry.bizThe Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game of the year, beating out Super Mario Maker 2

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening isn't the only Nintendo Switch game on the UK sales chart, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has risen to third place. This was likely prompted by the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite on Sept. 20.

The reviews of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening have been mostly positive, with many praising the game's beautiful sound and visuals, as well as a gameplay style that is still entertaining after all of these years. The only downsides to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening have been recurring framerate dips, a poorly implemented dungeon maker mode, and a short length for its asking price. It seems that these issues were not a problem for the gaming public at large, as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has managed to come out on top in a month that is packed with new releases.
