E3 2019: Link's Awakening US Limited Edition Does Not Get The Gameboy Steelbook

The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening Special Edition Cover

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is receiving an impressive looking special edition in Europe that comes with a case that resembles the original Game Boy. The Zelda fans who live in North America will have to rely on imports, as the special edition available in that region is nowhere near as impressive.

E3 2019 was a huge show for Nintendo, with many different announcements made for the coming year that have made Nintendo Switch fans excited. The Legend of Zelda fans have some excellent reasons to be excited, as Cadence of Hyrule is out in a few days, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be released in September, and the direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is receiving a special edition in Europe that comes with a 120-page artbook and a steelbook in the shape of an original Game Boy that is designed to look like the original version of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is playing on its screen.

The fans of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening who live outside of Europe will not be so lucky, as the special "Dreamer Edition" only comes with the artbook and not the Game Boy steelbook (thanks, Nintendo Life.)

The fact that the Nintendo Switch is region free means that fans in North America could import the European special edition if they really want the steelbook, as the cartridge would still function as normal in their Nintendo Switch.

It's common for special editions of video games to come with steelbooks, but their design often leaves something to be desired. There are a lot of fans who prefer the uniform look of the regular game box and there are plenty of people who eschew them completely in favor of digital downloads. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening steelbook is an exception to the rule and there are likely many Nintendo fans in North America who are enquiring about the import costs for this upcoming special edition.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be released for the Nintendo Switch on September 20, 2019.
