Growing up during the nineties was a time like no other, especially when it came to the ever-evolving toy market. Lego was one such toy that was exploding in popularity like never before, so much so that the brand got an entire theme park that was dedicated to the stackable toys in life-sized form. The Lego sets that were sold during the nineties took the brand in a new daring direction, and this came from new sets that were a far cry from the original basic boxes of Lego pieces. Many of the sets that were sold during the nineties were discontinued and have become quite rare, even with the success of the multiple Lego movies and TV shows in the franchise.

Checking out the one of a kind Lego sets of the nineties is a pretty cool experience to look back on, as these sets were quite groundbreaking at a time when the Lego brand was just getting its footing. There were other competing toys during the nineties such as Kennex and the ever popular Lincoln logs, both of which were also very fun toys to play with. But, the Lego brand has gone a long way in remaining relevant even during the technology revolution which includes smartphones and the Internet. Many of these Lego sets that were designed during the nineties will never be produced again, and this means that finding these sets will take a little bit of research, which will be worth it to find that signature nineties nostalgia.

Nothing is more memorable than dragons and castles, especially during your childhood. 22 Wolfpack Tower

Via: Bing

Released in 1992 as part of the Lego system, the 6075-1 Wolfpack Tower is a rather unique set that differentiated itself from the castle sets at the time. Using a variety of new colors and pieces this set was a far cry from the Lego sets that we had seen prior, with the value continuing to rise into today. Lego will probably never produce this set again, as much of the Lego universe has switched to superhero sets and the Lego Ninjago sets which seem to be growing in popularity with the new Netflix TV series. (Etsy)

21 Super Car

Via: Etsy

One of the chief complaints that many 90s children had with the Lego sets growing up was the fact that it was nearly impossible to build a car. Thus, the creators at Lego saw this problem as well and introduced the 8880 Super Car. This set which was extremely rare allowed users to build a diecast scale car with a little bit of skill and patience, that was a far cry from any Lego car that had been built up to this point. Naturally, there were a few kinks but the overall design was pretty cool, and you’ll probably never see one of these again. (Etsy)

Via: Etsy

The nineties Lego sets were very unique, to say the least, and there were so many different options that it was almost hard to choose a set so naturally, the 6769 Fort Legoredo was another unique stand outset, to say the least. When it comes to a unique and one-of-a-kind set the 6769 Fort Legoredo offered Lego players a chance to make a cowboy castle, which at the time was a pretty unique experience. 13 Shipwreck Island

Via: Etsy

Naturally, after you build the pirate ship there is always a chance that it will sink, and that is what Lego came up with when they designed the 6260 Shipwreck Island set. Designed to look like a remote island with a little palm tree this is a rare and quite unique set that many Lego players were able to add to their worlds during the nineties. This is another set that incorporated many small pieces so it can be difficult to find a set that still has all of the pieces together, nevertheless this was a pretty unique Lego set to say the least. (Etsy)

12 Raft Raiders

Via: Etsy

During the nineties, the pirate-themed Lego sets were quite a common occurrence on store shelves, so naturally, the 6261 Raft Raiders is not a surprising set by any means. What comes off as a set of three different unique boating pieces is perhaps one of the rarer sets to come out of the nineties Lego world. The 6261 Raft Raiders is unique in many aspects which have made the set a highly sought after one for many collectors who have been looking to build on their nineties nostalgia. (Etsy)

11 Neptune Discovery Lab - Aqua Dome 7

Via: Etsy

The underwater Lego sets have always been some of the coolest, and during the nineties, the brand was working hard to get more sets out there. In terms of sheer uniqueness and piece count the 6195 Neptune Discovery Lab - Aqua Dome 7 is a rather unique look at what one of the most popular underwater Lego sets of the nineties could be. Although the brand has moved on from the underwater world, this is still one of the most highly sought after sets in the collection so naturally finding one that is in good shape can be difficult and costly. (Etsy)

10 Air Tech Claw Rig

Via: Bricklink

The Lego Technic sets of the nineties were some of the coolest sets by far because they allowed players to build real functioning vehicles with diecast sizes and actual rubber wheels. The 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig was another unique set similar to the other vehicle building sets at the time, and this allowed many players to be able to add more vehicles to their Lego worlds. Because there were so many intricate pieces to these sets it can be hard to find one in good condition with all of the pieces unless you are willing to spend a good deal of money. (Etsy)

9 Imperial Trading Post

Via: Etsy

Another pirate themed set that took a cue from the medieval sets, the 6277 Imperial Trading Post was a fun chance for players to add another unique building to their Lego worlds. 7 Rock Island Refuge

Via: Etsy

If there is one thing about Lego sets during the nineties it was the fact that they were quite imaginative, and the 6273 Rock Island Refuge is a true testament to this. Combining interesting colors with a one of a kind design this Lego set is far above even the sets that you might see on today's shelves in terms of quality and pieces. The 6273 Rock Island Refuge is also one of the more expensive sets that you can buy, averaging a price of around $159.00 on most reseller websites. (Bricklink)
