There have been a glut of Star Wars news lately, as well as general excitement surrounding the buzz of seeing Ewan McGregor back in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. We also found out that the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – subtitled Survivor – and which stars the padawan-turned-knight Cal Kestis, will take place in the same year as Obi-Wan Kenobi. This seems like a ripe opportunity to tie things together while expanding the Star Wars universe.A forthcoming animated series will fill in some further gaps, as another star of the feature films is set to return. Liam Neeson played the beloved Qui-Gon Jinn in the prequel films but his character didn't feature much in the onscreen adaptations beyond The Phantom Menace, and brief cameos in animated series such as The Clone Wars. But the newly announced Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will show more of the Jedi Master.Tales of the Jedi will be an anthology of original animated shorts, with each episode featuring Jedi from the prequel era. The anthology will be released on Disney Plus. Liam Neeson will make his return as Qui-Gon Jinn, but a younger version of the character will also appear, with Neeson's son taking voiceover duties.
Viewers will see a younger Jinn alongside a younger Count Dooku, the Sith villain portrayed by the late Christopher Lee in Attack of the Clones, who in his earlier years trained Qui-Gon Jinn.
Tales of the Jedi will also feature stories focused on prequel-era Jedi such as Ahsoka Tano and Mace Windu. Dave Filoni, who is currently co-producing the live-action Ahsoka series, is also behind the anthology. The animated shorts will stretch across many years as it presumably follows the development of some of these Jedi from their earlier to later years.
Lucasfilm are producing Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, and the animated anthology series will be streaming on Disney Plus this autumn.
