House Of Ashes is a terrifying game that places you right into the madness of a creature mystery. Making your way through the cavern out to the other side in one piece is easier said than done as you're not the only one who doesn't belong down there. When you do finally escape from the caves and complete the game, you may be left with a few questions for plots left uncovered.

Because of the game's design and the inability to see everything the first time around, there will no doubt be some paths that seem open-ended and without a proper conclusion. It's likely that you'll never truly feel like you've seen the complete picture.

6 What Will The Scientists Do With The Specimens?

House Of Ashes. Rachel as a parasitic vampire. Dark lighting.

Scientists in horror are often shown under the light of only caring about the work and possible improvements alien life could add to human life. So in House Of Ashes, there's very little care for the lives of the people who managed to escape the nightmare. Instead, they push all of their attention onto the creatures. Unfortunately, we don't see what happens with these scientists and their next step with the monsters.

We can probably guess, however, that it will end badly for them. It's doubtful they're going to ignore the alien life within the caves or that they'll go down there themselves. Although not confirmed, there will most likely be another team fated to go down into the cavern and retrieve some form of this alien life.

5 What Happens To Any Survivors?

House Of Ashes. Two characters looking over at a long dead body. Green and yellow lighting.

The Survivors of House Of Ashes are totally dependant on the choices you make. You can complete the game with everyone dead or everyone alive. However many survivors there are, it's not shown what happens to them. The game's ending implies that, since the entire event will be covered up in the press, the existence of the survivor(s) will be eradicated.

Whether this is by their deaths or their imprisonment is uncertain, but one thing we can deduce is that their lives will never be the same in more ways than one. Not only will they have to burden the events, but they'll also have to find a way to deal with what the scientists have in store for them next.

4 All About Rachel And Eric's Past

House Of Ashes. Rachel and Eric looking ahead at something. Red tinted lighting in background.

Two of the main characters in House Of Ashes are Rachel and Eric, and the oh-so-awkward dynamic between them as once-romantic partners is an ever-present plot point. There are bits and pieces throughout the game where the two talk about their past together and what went wrong, but we never see the whole picture.

Their failed relationship is the least of the problems right now, but a further look into their past, not only as partners but also in their work, would be super interesting to explore. The two are very headstrong, brave characters and must have some grand stories to tell.

3 Did Rachel Originally Have A Bigger Role?

House Of Ashes. Rachel looking shocked with slight green lighting in background.

Through the entirety of House Of Ashes' marketing, Rachel is at the forefront looking to be the main character of the game, but the focus is placed upon characters Salim and Nick more than Rachel. Of course, this could just be a marketing tactic, since Ashley Tisdale (who plays Rachel) is the most well-known of the cast. Still, with how little time there is between each Dark Pictures release and the pure intensity of Rachel's playable sections, we can't help but wonder if she was initially planned to take up a more significant role.

This could've been cut short by things like money, time, and resources. Still, it is a question that we can't quite push away because of the strangeness in focus shifting away from Rachel.

2 The Possibility Of A Randolph Crew Expansion

House Of Ashes. Note on screen that is an excerpt from Randolph's journal.

The story of Randolph and his crew is spread throughout the caverns in the form of notes and cutscenes you can find. The tale is a dark and twisted one that adds a whole layer of creepiness to the fate of these people. Their mission ends with Ellis van Huyten sabotaging the dynamite in a ploy to stop the monster's death and to stop the temple from being sealed to the world.

The story is filled with betrayal, lore and may even be scarier than the events of what follows in House Of Ashes. Supermassive Games doesn't seem to have plans for a future Randolph Crew Expansion, but it would be a shame to leave a tale so gripping to become buried among the rubble.

1 Why Is The Curator In The Background Of This Scene?

House Of Ashes. Curator in background behind Eric and Nick.

During one of the scenes in House Of Ashes, unlocked by letting Rachel become infected with one of the parasites and not purging it from her, you can see a familiar face hiding behind the characters. Look closely enough, and you'll realize it's the Curator who is standing in the scene for some reason.

The characters make no acknowledgment of his presence, and it's only a brief appearance, but it further adds to the mystery of the Curator's existence. Just why is he in the background observing the events ahead? Did he not expect the story to play out this way, or was he the one in control all along, and Rachel's fate came about exactly as he desired?
