An innocent tweet became a telling look inside the production of Netflix's mysterious new One Piece project. The highly scrutinized adaptation's showrunner shared a tweet from prominent AniTwitter personality Totally Not Mark.

It's a pretty typical tweet from One Piece stan Twitter, as I can't think of a more slavishly devoted group of anime fans out there. They grinned and bore it for years as 4Kids improved... erm, "ruined" their favorite show, and have since rallied together to incessantly tell people to drop what they're doing and watch Oda's fifty-million-chapter opus.

Look, I fell off in, like, 2010. I'll read it when it's over. Calm down.

Anyway, Totally Not Mark's tweet caught the eye of Steven Maeda - showrunner on Netflix's upcoming One Piece adaptation. The director quoted the tweet and simply wrote, "tell me about it."

Hopefully, this bodes well for the Netflix adaptation. Jokes aside, it's rough to see something you love get a bad adaptation. Yeah, the original doesn't mysteriously vanish overnight, but it's nice to have a good Hollywood adaptation that you can show your non-fan friends. And while it's worth questioning the necessity for a Hollywood adaptation of, well, just about anything, this project's already setting sail and well underway.

We'll just have to wait and see if Netflix does the prolific series justice, or if we're in for another decade of uninspired Dragonball Evolution jokes, but about One Piece this time.
