So Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather had a boxing match for some reason. You’d have expected this to be an easy tie for one of the most decorated boxers in history, but the match ended in a stalemate with both sides making a lot of money. The most interesting thing about this faceoff was probably the Pokemon card that Paul wore around his neck.

The YouTuber wore a first edition, gem mint 10-graded Charizard around his neck, presumably as a trophy to try and match Mayweather’s many accolades. Pokemon cards have seen a resurgence of sorts over the past year, with some rare cards going for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Paul himself has gotten into the hobby, creating videos of himself unboxing card packs costing over a million dollars.

“Pokémon is blowing up. I have no doubt in my mind that this card will be worth a million dollars between two and three years from now,” said Paul at the time he purchased the Charizard card from Gary Haase, a.k.a King Pokemon for $150,000. “They’re called appreciating assets,” Paul continued. “I’m done buying Lamborghinis. I’m done buying stuff that won’t make me money,” he added.

That was probably Paul’s intention as he wore the card around his neck for the fight, as well as the following press conference. The already high priced card is probably worth way more now, with the YouTuber going as far as saying that it could be worth a million dollars.

“It’s a BGS 10 Charizard, first edition Charizard. It’s one of three in the world,” he said when asked about the card. “It is my prized possession. Ever since I got this graded at a ten, the momentum in my life has been crazy. It’s my good luck charm.”

“I mean now, shit, this is a million-dollar card, baby,” he added. “This is the card I walked out [with] to the Floyd Mayweather fight. This is a million-dollar card.”

The Pokemon card craze has resulted in scalpers hoarding up card packs and retail outlets like Target taking them off shelves due to unruly customer behaviour.
