Yoshimi Yasuda, ex-CEO of Kadokawa Games, the publisher of the game tweeted, "Lollipop Chainsaw is back in Dragami Games. please expect to have fun and wait…!!!"Spotted by VGC, it is unclear what exactly the tweet is referring to. Could it be a remaster? A remake? A sequel? We just don't know right now. What we do know is that Yasuda left Kadokawa last month to form his own company, Dragami Games, where Lollipop Chainsaw is headed.Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack-and-slash zombie game where you take control of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader trying to fight through her high school. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture - Goichi 'Suda51' Suda's studio - and co-written by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, the game gained a cult following for its tongue-in-cheek wit and stylish action.
Yasuda tells fans, "Please look forward to it," so hopefully an official announcement is on the horizon. The game had a much better reception in Japan than it did in the West, but it still sold relatively well. It's only available on PS3 and Xbox 360, with no backwards compatibility on any current-gen consoles, so even if the news is just a remaster, it'll be welcome.
Both Gunn and Suda51 also commemorated the game a few days ago for its tenth anniversary. Gunn tweeted some cosplay pictures, a screenshot, and some artwork alongside the message, "Happy 10-year anniversary to the only video game I've ever worked on, with the maestro Suda51."
Suda51 himself quoted Gunn's tweet and added his own message. "Prof. James Gunn (PhD in Zombies) and I smashed our vibes together and made this game! Jessica Nigri's Juliet was impeccable! Happy 10th Anniversary, #LollipopChainsaw!"
