The second unlockable character in Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2 is far more interesting than the rather underwhelming Veteran. Of course, we are talking about the pistol-packing, spirit-slinging, Medium. The Medium brings all sorts of new mechanics to the table and is a breath of fresh air for the roster.

The Medium is also strangely forgiving, being one of the easier characters to get to grips with. This is especially interesting considering the Veteran ended up being one of the harder characters to get a feel for due to his unique quirks that were also fairly terrible. Without further ado, let's see what she’s all about.

How To Unlock The Medium?

The Medium, whilst initially looking like a side-graded Witch, actually ends up doing her own thing. She is a crowd-control machine, but her damage is fairly low. This makes her especially good against melee-oriented groups, but she can struggle when it comes to dealing with ranged opponents.

She has access to powerful AOE abilities, an escape mechanic, and the ability to summon the spirits of the recently deceased to aid her in combat. A lot of her abilities cost a lot of Energy, however. This means you have a lot of options at your disposal, but not enough resources to be able to use them without thought.

You unlock the Medium by defeating Thespian.

The Medium’s Weapon

The Medium starts with the worst weapon in the game - by far. The Old Revolver has awful stats across the board and is a hindrance to her early gameplay more than anything else.

The Old Revolver is painfully bad. Its damage is staggeringly low compared to its competitors, it has a tiny capacity, and it takes way too long to reload. This weapon can radically warp your perception of the Medium because she simply cannot stand up to any other character in a fight. You will struggle to do much with this gun, and it is highly advised you wait until you have found a better gun before you start using the Medium seriously.

The only upside is the range, which is 3x that of some of its competitors. This is unfortunately offset by its dispersion, which makes it fairly inaccurate at that range, but it’s at least something noteworthy about an otherwise terrible weapon.

The Medium’s Abilities

Umbrella

  • Invisible
  • Summon

The Medium’s first ability is her Umbrella. This lets her thrust it forward dealing light damage and knocking all enemies back a significant distance. This ability is amazing at keeping enemies away from you. The knockback can be used to pin enemies into a corner or to clear a path for a quick escape.

Her ability to turn Invisible is one of her strongest traits. Activate this ability and the Medium will lose all agro and is free to escape. Be warned that once your invisibility timer ends, enemies are prone to instantly aggroing and even attacking if you are close enough. If this happens with more than a couple of enemies nearby, you could straight up die.

Her last ability is her most interesting - the ability to summon the spirits of the dead to aid her in battle. For every corpse in the current arena, the Medium can summon a spirit. This spirit will fly towards enemies and attack, dealing light damage. More importantly, it can Stun enemies, preventing them from moving for a short time.

The only downside to Summon is the high Energy cost, and that the ability prevents you from regenerating Energy whilst active. This can leave you with no means of escape if you are too greedy with casting this.

Battle Strategy When Using The Medium

Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 Medium convo at her door

The Medium is a fairly complex character because her Energy is such a powerful resource, but also a massive hindrance. Not only are her abilities expensive, but they can limit her regeneration. Topping all of that off, the Medium seems to have a lower-than-usual passive Energy Regeneration rate. This makes her powerful on paper and easy to pick up, but difficult to master.

On top of that, she starts off incredibly weak due to her starting weapon being worthless, to be frank. Once you have found a better weapon, and you have equipped some Artefacts that deal with her Energy woes, however, she becomes a force of nature.

Her whole shtick is crowd control. Her ability to yeet enemies halfway across the map with her Umbrella is ridiculously good and lets her keep large groups of enemies at bay whilst she opens fire.

If you ever get in a bind, then Invisibility is one of the best escape tools in the game, and you can get to safety in most situations. When it comes to Summon, however, you want to save this for powerful single-target enemies. Especially those with ranged attacks. The spirit will Stun the enemy, distract it, and give you the opportunity to move in for the kill.
