The original Luigi's Mansion is beloved and memorable for many reasons, but one of its most significant and humorous elements was what many dubbed the "Mario button."

The function was fairly simple. On the Gamecube controller, the player simply had to press the green "A" button when not near an object or wall and Luigi would shout his brother's name in desperation. The manner in which he yelled "Mario" varied based on how scared Luigi was but it was funny and showed how well Nintendo knows their own characters.

While not a major concern going into Luigi's Mansion 3, some may have been wondering whether the series' Nintendo Switch installment would have the same feature. Finally, Reddit user Cosmoskirin123 has given those pondering the question the answer in a thread on Reddit.

Cosmoskirin123 states that he had been playing Luigi's Mansion 3 for a while before he figured out how to call out for Mario. Ultimately, they figured out that "pressing left, right, or down on the D-Pad makes Luigi call out for his brother, just like he did in the original game."

In accordance with how the function worked in the original game, Cosmoskirin also states that the way in which Luigi cries out for his braver sibling changes depending on whether Luigi is scared at the moment.

The Reddit user concludes by stating that, at the very least, the inclusion of the "Mario button" is a nostalgic homage to the game that started it all.

Frankly speaking, it's quite possible that a majority of Luigi's Mansion 3 players don't know about the "Mario button." Furthermore, it's quite likely that the Reddit user will have inspired many players, especially long-time fans, to boot up their Switches and test out the function immediately.

Overall, this is just a nice addition to an overall very successful game. So far, the game is the biggest Nintendo Switch launch of 2019 and may remain that way, given the lack of many big-name releases coming out between now and the end of the year. Unless the Link's Awakening remake or Super Mario Maker 2 can catch up quickly, Luigi's Mansion 3 appears to have busted the solid competition.

In the meantime, players have a "Mario button" to press.
