The quarterback position is often considered the toughest and most important position in pro sports. If you did a quick search on Google you'd find that the size of their contracts speaks to this exact belief.

With every upcoming NFL season the world sees the release of that year's Madden entry and with that comes the discussion about the NFL's top quarterbacks. Having a solid and reliable guy under center can turn your play from rookie to superstar in a flash. In a list that will definitely not upset hundreds of NFL fans, let's look at the Top 10 NFL quarterbacks and rank them for Madden 20.

10 Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz went from likely NFL MVP, oft-injured promising quarterback of the future for the Philadelphia Eagles. The only thing holding Wentz back from being considered a Top 5 guy is his own body.

Eagles players and fans are both hoping, with a year of full recovery, that Wentz can return to form and stay healthy for an entire season. With Nick Foles now in Jacksonville, the Eagles don't have the security blanket that won the franchise a Super Bowl. Here's hoping the best of Wentz is on display in 2019.

9 Jared Goff

Jared Goff was once thought of like an NFL draft bust that fell into the realm of overhyped college quarterbacks. Thanks to Sean McVay, Jared Goff is now a great system quarterback that works well in what McVay tries to accomplish on the offensive side of the ball every Sunday.

Despite starting hot during the 2019 NFL season, Goff quickly burned out down the stretch despite making the Super Bowl. Bill Belichick shut the young quarterback down and may have shown the league, the system made Goff, not the other way around.

8 Dak Prescott

Now, Dak Prescott has had some accuracy issues, as well as criticism for not throwing the ball downfield. The fact of the matter is that his teams have seen decent playoff success and the Dallas Cowboys have won multiple NFC East division titles since Prescott took the reigns under center.

Critics will point to Ezekiel Elliott has the prime reason for the Cowboys success, but with a contract extension looming for both of them, the 2019 NFL season could have repercussions for their careers and the prolonged success of the Dallas Cowboys.

7 Andrew Luck

If this list was purely on talent and ability it'd be hard to not put Andrew Luck somewhere near the top. Unfortunately, his injury issues, as well as the fact that he hasn't played in a Super Bowl, hurts his resume right now.

Given that the Indianapolis Colts have one of the best young rosters in the NFL, he could be poised to be the centerpiece of a possible dynasty. Most fans understand how good Luck really is, and wouldn't be shocked if in 2 years time he's considered the best quarterback in the NFL.

6 Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan is #6 on this least because he's a league MVP, has played in a Super Bowl, and has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks of the last decade. Ryan tends to be the punching bag of the Atlanta Falcons despite never really having a consistent defense, running game, or offensive line.

He'll likely end his career in the same breath as Dan Marino, which is a pretty great spot all things considered. A strong 2019 NFL season and some playoff success could easily push him back into the Top 5 discussion.

5 Tom Brady

People reading this will either feel Tom Brady is either too high or too low on this list. There's really no winning when it comes to the pride of New England. His resume of winning, no matter some of its legitimacy, is really impressive and he's shown a model of consistency.

That being said, he is getting older and late in the 2018 NFL season and in the NFL Playoffs it was obvious his arm strength and accuracy wasn't quite up to his standard of play. Was it simply season fatigue, or is age catching up to him? The 2019 NFL season should provide a clearer answer.

4 Russell Wilson

Considered by many to be the NFL's more underrated elite quarterbacks, Russell Wilson has been a consummate professional for the Seattle Seahawks and will likely go down as the franchise's best player. He recently received a huge contract as well as a brand new receiver in rookie D.K. Metcalf.

Wilson's ability to make plays outside of the pocket is what truly sets him apart and makes him so dangerous during games. With 2 Super Bowl appearances, with one of them ending in victory, he's likely already headed to the NFL Hall of Fame.

3 Patrick Mahomes

The current NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, had a tremendous breakout season that centered on his unorthodox passing styles accompanied by his playmaking ability from the pocket. The NFL is about sustained consistency so it's going to take a little bit more on tape before he's truly crowned as one of the elite.

Fans forget that being on the Madden cover doesn't guarantee success. Vince Young was once on the cover for the Tennessee Titans, and his career quickly faded away into nothing in the blink of an eye.

2 Drew Brees

As previously mentioned with Tom Brady, the NFL is currently in a place where it looks to have numerous elite starting quarterbacks over the age of 40. Drew Brees had a great year for the New Orleans Saints during the 2018 season despite coming up short once again in the NFL Playoffs.

Towards the end of the season, questions arose about his deteriorating arm strength, but his accuracy is still world class. Brees will likely break even more records in 2019 with the help of Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas on offense.

1 Aaron Rodgers

Judging purely on arm talent it's hard to make a case against Aaron Rodgers being the best quarterback in the NFL. Despite his leadership and relationship skills coming under fire after a tough 2018 NFL season, Rodgers still proved statistically that he's an elite talent.

With a new coach in Green Bay, Rodgers is looking to run his first new offense in a while, and it could pay dividends for his play overall. It's hard to imagine another quarterback having a higher overall than the laid-back gunslinger from the University of California.
