Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which includes our first proper look at Grindelwald since he was replaced by Hideo Kojima's favorite actor, Mads Mikkelsen.

The Secrets of Dumbledore is the third entry in the Fantastic Beasts series of the Wizarding World. Gellert Grindelwald has an important role as the chief antagonist of this series, and was previously played by Johnny Depp, but for the third film, Depp, amid legal battles related to the treatment of his ex-wife Amber Heard, was recast. Depp was replaced by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen as the powerful dark wizard. There are not too many shots which feature Mikkelsen as Grindelwald, but judging by what we see here he appears to be a strong addition to the cast.

As the name Fantastic Beasts suggests there will be plenty of new magical creatures in the upcoming film, such as those fabulous crouching cave lobsters, with British actor Eddie Redmayne playing the magizoologist Newt Scamander. Dan Fogler returns as the brave muggle baker Jacob Kowalski who has helped Newt before, only this time he actually gets himself a magic wand… which should be pretty fun.

The Secrets of Dumbledore focuses on an intrepid team of wizards and witches, including Newt's brother Theseus (Callum Turner) and Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), who embark on a dangerous quest to stop Grindelwald from seizing control of the entire wizarding world. Jude Law is as compelling as you'd hope as Professor Albus Dumbledore, and presumably will have a larger role than in the previous film.

David Yates is at the helm for Fantastic Beasts. The British director has been in charge of the series since the first entry, as well as being behind the camera for all Harry Potter movies since 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. His dark and somewhat gritty approach to the source material has become a hallmark of the Wizarding World, so fans probably know what to expect here: plenty of visual effects and massive havoc on screen. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore premieres in April 2022.
