Wizards of the Coast has just unveiled this year's new Magic: The Gathering Starter Kit, which provides prospective Magic players with everything they need to get right into the game. The kit includes two 60-card decks, one Magic Play Guide booklet, two deck boxes, and codes to unlock those decks in MTG Arena.

Each deck follows its own distinct theme that’s as old as Magic: The Gathering itself. One deck is White/Blue tempo control, while the other is classic Red/Green aggro. Both decks contain 27 lands, five rares (including one foil rare), and a creature-heavy spread that teaches players what each of these color combos is all about.

The White/Blue starter deck is all about frustrating your opponent in order to drag them kicking and screaming into the late-game where it will have the advantage. Cards like Dreamshackle Geist and Nebelgast Beguiler lock your opponent's creatures down while Inspiring Overseer and Welcoming Vampire ensure your survival into the late-game. There, cards like Hullbreaker Horror and Serpentine Ambush can deliver the killing blow.

On the other side of the Starter Kit, the Red/Green deck is all about aggressively pursuing your opponent and winning the game as quickly as possible, but don't worry too much if your game runs long. Cards like Voldaren Stinger and Lambholt Harrier are tailor-made for breaking down late-game stalls, while creatures like Ascendant Packleader and Thundering Raiju keep the pressure on at all stages of the game. Removal like Abrade and Burn the Accursed can ensure your thundering army makes it through your opponent's defenses to get them to zero health before they can erect proper defenses.

Both decks will feature cards from Magic's latest sets, including Streets of New Capenna, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, and Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. There will even be some new art for certain rare cards. Find the Magic: The Gathering 2022 Starter Kit at your local game store in the coming weeks, but don't expect to find any demon nipples in Magic's latest expansion while you're there.
