With the launch of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, it's time for Magic The Gathering Arena to refresh its Mastery Pass once more. Over 90 levels, you can unlock everything from cards and gold, to cosmetics and even a pet fish.
But is it worth buying the full Mastery Pass? And what is the quickest way to unlock it all? Here is everything you need to know about Arena's Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Mastery Pass.
What Is The Mastery Pass?
The Mastery Pass is Magic's version of a Battle Pass, like you might find in Fortnite, Apex Legends, or the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Duel Pass. By completing in-game missions, you can level up the pass, netting you exclusive rewards.
Each Mastery Pass in Arena is tied to the latest premiere set, and includes themed cosmetics, booster packs, and orbs for the 'Mastery Tree', a second tier of unlockable rewards. Easily the most common reward in both the pass and the Mastery Tree are "card styles", which give your cards a new, extended-art style you can't normally find anywhere else.
Mastery Passes only last as long as that set is the latest one. So Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty replaced the previous Innistrad: Crimson Vow Mastery Pass, and Streets of New Capenna will replace Neon Dynasty's when it launches in a few months time.
How To Level Up The Mastery Pass
The easiest way to level up the Arena Mastery Pass is to complete the daily quests listed on the main menu. For instance, a mission to cast 20 white or red spells will reward you with 500 gold and 500 Mastery XP. As long as you have a decent variety of decks to play with, these can be completed in just a few matches and give you a lot of progress on the Mastery Pass.
There are also missions for winning a certain number of games in either a day or a week, but they're not worth completing. They provide a fraction of the Mastery XP of the other missions, but take a lot more time. Winning 15 games per day for 250 gold and a measly 25 Master XP just isn't worth the effort.
The Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Mastery Pass
The Mastery Pass is split into two tracks: a free track that gives a handful of packs and a few orbs for the Mastery Tree, and the full, unlocked Mastery Pass.
Every player is automatically enrolled in the free track, so you don't need to do anything to claim the rewards on it. To unlock the paid pass costs 3400 gems (€19.99). There is also a fast-track option, which costs 5400 gems and gives you the first ten levels of the pass for free.
When you unlock the full Mastery Pass, you'll retroactively be rewarded everything you missed. So don't worry about playing and levelling up before you're able to unlock the full pass, as you won't miss anything.

Mastery Tree Rewards
The Mastery Tree is a branching series of cosmetics that you unlock using the orbs you receive through the Mastery Pass. There are usually five trees, with one for each of Magic's five colours (white, blue, black, red, and green).
In total, there are 30 rewards available through the Mastery Tree, meaning you must complete the whole Mastery Pass to unlock all of them.
