Every few years, Magic: the Gathering releases a wacky set with mechanics and abilities that are purely for fun. The latest set to release, Unfinity, is split between tournament legal cards and the typical goofy card that you can’t take to your average tournament. Cards with a little acorn symbol at the bottom of the card are not tournament legal and typically feature some of the strangest abilities in Magic.

Called acorn cards, this style of identifying cards replaces the silver-bordered cards from Un sets in the past. Because of the wild nature of acorn cards, the actual power of these cards can vary; some of the cards are based on dexterity, and many of them rely on luck for the best results.

10 Tug Of War

Cards that have players compete in subgames are incredibly rare, with the original card, Shahrazad, having been banned from competitive play because it would cause games to go too long. That hasn’t stopped subgames from appearing in Un-sets, and Tug of War is the latest.

Tug of War has you pull out three of your best permanent cards from your deck and try to win the mini-game, with the winner getting a card for free.

9 Urza's Fun House

For one activation, you can get infinite mana just by tapping Urza’s Fun House. You need to control the rest of the Urza lands, but Urza’s Fun House isn’t legendary, so you have four instances of infinite mana for a turn.

There are plenty of things to do with infinite mana, and in the meantime, you can activate its third ability to head to AskUrza.com and get a random effect.

8 Form Of The Approach Of The Second Sun

Dexterity cards like Form Of The Approach Of The Second Sun are not for everyone, but they are certainly funny to watch your friends try to hold a pose or balance a card while playing.

This alternate win-condition turns you into a card, balancing the top six cards of your library on top of your head. If you draw yourself, you win.

7 Grand Marshal Macie

There are a lot of things going on with Grand Marshal Macie. Effectively though, it turns one of your effects that would end at the end of your turn into a permanent effect, as long as it remains tapped.

Some of the best cards to play with Grand Marshal Macie include Silence, stopping your opponents from casting any spells, or Angel’s Grace, which prevents you from losing the game.

6 D00-DL, Caricaturist

Magic the Gathering Top Acorn Cards From Unfinity D00-DL Caricaturist

This little legendary artifact creature is one of the funniest cards in Unfinity. When it enters the battlefield, you will have 15 seconds to draw the artwork for a 4/4 token. If you can manage to give it wings, it has flying, the same for mean eyes to give it menace, and haste with footwear, and more.

D00-DL, Caricaturist gives you a break from the game to doodle out a little drawing, drawing the best little creature you can under pressure and an extremely limited clock.

5 It Came From Planet Glurg

This massive creature is one of the best ways to take over a game in Unfinity. Late into the game, once you and your opponent have a few creatures out, cast It Came From Planet Glurg and target the biggest creatures in play.

That will give It Came From Planet Glurg all the combined stats, names, abilities, and more of those creatures. While you can’t play It Came From Planet Glurg into an open board, it becomes the best of everything in play.

4 Sole Performer

Sole Performer is a very odd card that has some very powerful possibilities. You can tap Sole Performer to add two tap symbols that you can use instead of tapping a card for an effect. Something basic you could do is use the tap symbols to activate a land, adding extra mana for a bigger spell.

For a play that’s a little more intense, you could use the tap symbols to pay for two Time Vault activations, granting you infinite turns with the tricky artifact.

3 Greatest Show In The Multiverse

Greatest Show In The Multiverse requires some set up, and some research, but has a massive payoff for players putting in the work. When this saga enters the battlefield, you must exile five cards with different names, but featuring artwork from the same artist. Each chapter then lets you cast one of those cards for free. Some quick artists that are worth looking into are Seb McKinnon, Chris Rahn, and Rebecca Guay.

2 Far Out

This niche card has some wild potential that requires some specific building. Far Out lets you pick and choose which modes you choose for cards that offer various modes to pick from. It even lets you pick multiple modes if before you could only choose one.

With a card like Cryptic Command, you can now choose all four options, or even just one if you wanted to.

1 Opening Ceremony

Magic the Gathering Top Acorn Cards From Unfinity Opening Ceremony

The wildest, most random, and possibly the most powerful card from Unfinity is Opening Ceremony. You add one of each color mana to your mana pool, including a generic mana, and then you open a pack. You can cast anything you want from that pack.

Effectively Opening Ceremony lets you draw 15 cards and cast whatever you can from them. If there’s something good, it could very easily seal the game for you. If not, well, you had fun opening another pack.
