In Magic The Gathering's Commander format, there is no shortage of specialty decks to choose from. Among these are Tribal decks. These are decks that are built around a specific type of card, generally creatures. There has been plenty of support for all sorts of creatures, allowing for these kinds of decks to function well.

One of these Tribal decks you can build is Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are generally in Naya (red/white/green) colors, and tend to play a lot of creatures that cost a hefty bit of mana. The tradeoff to this is many Dinosaurs hit very hard, with high power and toughness to make them an immediate threat as soon as they hit the battlefield.

8 Svella, Ice Shaper

Svella, Ice Shaper helps you both to ramp and cheat out your big creatures. If you have ways to untap Svella, Ice Shaper before your upkeep, you can even use the effect multiple times a turn to make mana rocks for you to use or to cast a card from the top four cards of your library.

Dinosaur decks need a lot of mana resources to function, so having Svella, Ice Shaper on top of your other mana rocks will help you ensure you can cast them at any point. It's in Gruul (red/green) colors, which ensures you can play all the best Dinosaurs as well. Not only that, but Gruul has access to powerful support cards that let you give creatures haste and trample to really deal massive damage.

7 Zacama, Primal Calamity

A Naya Commander that has a ton of effects, Zacama, Primal Calamity is a solid choice for a Dinosaur commander. Its color identity lets you play all the best Dinosaurs, and when it enters the battlefield by casting it you even get to untap all your lands to immediately use its effects.

Since Dinosaurs need as much access to mana as possible, Zacama untapping your lands is especially important for Dinosaur decks. Once Zacama, Primal Calamity is on the field, it can act as removal for artifacts and enchantments, as well as creatures. None of these effects require you to tap either, allowing them to be used multiple times a turn.

6 Morophon, The Boundless

Morophon, the boundless card and artwork in Magic: The Gathering.

If you want to play with all five colors in your Dinosaur Tribal deck, then Morophon, The Boundless is the commander for you. You choose Dinosaur for the creature type, and then all of your Dinosaurs are discounted for WUBRG (all five colors). Not only that, it gives all of your other Dinosaurs +1/+1 to make them even more of a threat.

Morophon, The Boundless itself doesn't need any specific colors to cast it, making it that much easier to bring out. Thanks to its ability, it allows you to easily bring out your multi-colored Dinosaurs without needing to dedicate a large portion of it.

5 Imoti, Celebrant Of Bounty

Imoti, Celebrant Of Bounty is a Simic (green/blue) commander that while not the most common color combo for Dinosaurs, is still a fantastic commander for them. Since all of your Dinosaurs tend to cost a lot of mana, Imoti, Celebrant Of Bounty will give them all cascade, allowing you to bring out even more creatures or cast powerful spells along with them.

Green is Dinosaurs' primary color, allowing you to play with plenty of the best ones. Not only that, you have access to blue which in turn lets you play counterspells to make sure that you are able to cast your spells without worrying they will be removed as soon as they hit the battlefield.

4 Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is a fantastic Dinosaur commander and lets you play every color but white. When it deals damage it gives the rest of the cards you cast from your hand cascade. It has trample to help ensure you get the effect off, and in multiplayer games, odds are you will be able to hit at least one of your opponents.

Unlike other cascade-styled commanders, Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder has no restriction on what cards get cascade unlike something like Imoti, Celebrant Of Bounty. Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder gets out of hand very quickly, as it lets you start cascading early thanks to its low casting cost.

3 Mayael The Anima

A Naya commander that's built around cheating big creatures onto the battlefield, Mayael The Anima is a fantastic choice for a Dinosaur commander. If you have ways to untap it, you can even trigger its effect multiple times, including during your opponent's turns.

When you mix in ways to control what's on the top of your deck, you can make it so Mayael The Anima will always hit a creature you want out on the battlefield right away. The effect only works with creatures with five or more power, which luckily all the best Dinosaurs will fit into this perfectly.

2 Atla Palani, Nest Tender

Not only is Atla Palani, Nest Tender a flavorful commander, but it's one of the best commanders for a Dinosaur Tribal deck. Tapping it can make an Egg token that when it dies will let you cheat out the first creature you reveal from the top of your deck and put it on the battlefield. Since Dinosaurs cost so much mana to cast, this allows you to get around their casting cost entirely.

Unlike other commanders with similar effects, Atla Palani, Nest Tender guarantees you will always hit a creature to put on the battlefield. This ensures that the resources used to get the effect off don't go to waste.

1 Gishath, Sun's Avatar

The face of Dinosaur Tribal commander decks, Gisath, Sun's Avatar is the best commander for the archetype. While other cards are good at cheating Dinosaurs onto the battlefield, Gishath, Sun's Avatar hits much more than the rest since the only limit to the number of Dinosaurs is the amount of damage done.

Since it's a 7/6 with trample and haste, you can take advantage of Gishath's ability right away, and quickly begin flooding the battlefield with Dinosaurs. It's not uncommon for your board state to get completely out of hand with just one attack, instantly becoming the scariest person in the game. If you have ways to boost Gishath, Sun's Avatar attack even further, it makes its effect that much scarier.
