There are plenty of creepy and unnatural entities in Magic: The Gathering, enough to satisfy even hardcore horror fans. Many of these beings are planeswalkers, immensely powerful, world-traveling entities that can exert their will across planes. Some of the creepiest planeswalkers are aligned with black mana, but terrifying planeswalkers can be found across all colors.

Two honorable mentions, Lolth is a spider-like deity from Dungeons & Dragons, and while she was depicted on a planeswalker card, she is not a planeswalker. The second honorable mention goes to the mysterious Demonic Leviathan that Nicol Bolas fought, defeated, and eventually ate. That sounds super creepy, but there’s no direct description of this eldritch monster.

10 Tibalt

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Tibalt Rakish Instigator

This half-devil, half-human planeswalker sports red skin and two devilish horns on his head. What makes him so creepy isn’t his looks, it’s his sadistic dependence on causing as much pain as possible, drawing strength from the misery of others. Tibalt isn’t picky about his pain-dealing business, either. It could be the most heinous torture device you could imagine or the mental anguish of driving someone to the depths of despair.

9 Tezzeret

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Tezzeret Agent of Bolas

While still mostly human, Tezzeret has replaced significant portions of his body with a magical metal held together with powerful enchantments. This metal, called Etherium, gives Tezzeret an otherworldly look, more machine than man at times. In the Magic storyline, Tezzeret has teamed up with the most evil beings in the multiverse, including Nicol Bolas and the Phyrexians. The icing on the creepy cake is that sometimes when he planeswalks, his chest opens up and the rest of his body is sucked into the void inside.

8 Wrenn

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Wrenn and Six

Wrenn is a dryad whose planeswalker spark ignited when her forest caught fire. She trapped the fire inside herself, allowing her to travel from tree to tree instead of growing with a single tree for her entire life. By binding with a treefolk, Wrenn can travel between worlds and across the land. Wrenn’s eerie pale skin, matched with the burning fire contained within her body, constantly burns out the treefolk she is paired with, turning her into a walking, burning tree. Wrenn loves the trees she pairs with, but the union creates a terrifying picture.

7 Vraska

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Vraska the Unseen

This Golgari planeswalker comes from Ravnica, commanding the undercity with her looks. With a glance, Vraska can turn anything to stone. This petrifying ability is creepy enough, but Vraska has been shown to decorate her throne room with the statue remains of her enemies.

As if that wasn’t enough, Vraska sports the traditional gorgon looks, pale green skin, and a head full of enough snakes to creep anyone out.

6 Geyadrone Dihada

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Dihada Binder of Wills

This ancient demonic planeswalker comes from before the Mending in Magic lore, where planeswalkers were nigh-immortal gods. While seemingly human, Geyadrone Dihada has pale gray skin, hands closer to claws, and a mass of tentacles instead of legs. Perhaps even more terrifying is her unique form of magic, which consists of controlling powerful beings, and collecting the strongest people she can so she can bend them to her will.

5 Aminatou

The youngest known humanoid planeswalker, Aminatou is an eight-year-old child with visions of the future and the power to manipulate destiny. She claims that one day she saw herself as a planeswalker when she was older, decided she didn’t want to wait, and forced her spark to awaken. While very sweet and kind, her calm attitude is creepy in the way only an eight-year-old in a horror film can be.

4 Grist

Grist, The Hunter Tide MTG Card

An insect planeswalker, Grist travels the multiverse looking for plant life to consume. This planeswalking plague is heralded by a flash of light in the sky, and a week later, swarms of insects from that plane would be drawn to her location to feast. While Grist is a singular insect, she holds command over the millions of bugs in the plane.

When needed, Grist can gather the insects around her to form a singular humanoid body, complete with a human skull.

3 Tevesh Szat

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Tevesh Szat Doom of Fools

Once a regular human planeswalker, Tevesh Szat became twisted after the death of his sister. He corrupted his body with draconic magic, turning his lower half into a whirling mass of serpentine tails, lashing at everything as he moves. His upper half also resembles a dragon, with different artists interpreting it as a fully-reptile look and others taking on a smooth, scaly body with ridges lining his head. Either look is unsettling and can send shivers down your spine.

2 Ob Nixilis

Magic the Gathering Creepiest Planeswalkers Ob Nixilis the Adversary

Another planeswalker-turned-monster, Ob Nixilis was once a warlord who was pushed to desperation in a battle and summoned a demon to defeat his foes. When Ob Nixilis tried to take the Cursed Veil, it transformed him into a monstrous winged demon. Eternally cursed and immensely cruel, Ob Nixilis is proficient in magic that decays the world around him, absorbing life from everything around him.

1 Ashiok

A being of pure fear and nightmare, Ashiok thrives off the fear of others. Their body resembles something humanoid, but that ends at their head. Instead of a face, a hole has formed, absorbing their nose, eyes, forehead, and remaining skull. Now two long horns peak up from the side of their head, with black whispy smoke pouring out from where their head should be. Ashiok can even interpret a person’s worst nightmares, giving them form and preying on the fear they cause.
