Performing glitches in video games can prove to be a fun and beneficial experience, as long as the glitches don't cause any corrupted data or softlocks. This is especially true in the world of speedrunning —depending on the category, speedrunners need to utilize a variety of glitches and know how to pull them off correctly in order to set new records.

Sometimes however, new glitches can surface even if a video game is somewhat old, as happens to be the case with The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which released way back in 2000. Specifically, an interesting and oddly specific glitch has been uncovered that allows one to warp to the game's hidden developer room.

The glitch in question has been detailed by YouTube user SeedBorn. It deals with Stale Reference Manipulation, a glitch that was first discovered in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and involves changing the contents of a chest or changing an area when players load into it.

In the video, SeedBorn performs the glitch in the Deku Palace and uses the Zora Mask as well as Bombs, since those items are the only ones needed for the glitch. Since the entire process is difficult to explain word-for-word, it is advised to watch the video for a better understanding and demonstration. Ultimately, SeedBorn moves a specific rupee around the Deku Palace and intentionally gets caught by a guard, who instead of throwing him outside of the Deku Palace, places him into the developer test room.

As the name might suggest, the developer test room is a room that was used to test some of the mechanics of the game before it came out. There are ladders of various sizes, switches, crawl spaces (which were never implemented into the final version), Stone Tower Temple's block puzzle, and much more. It's important to emphasize that the developer test room is only available in the Japanese version of the game, and although it is a pretty cool discovery, it may serve little to no purpose when speedrunning.

The developer test room isn't the only recent discovery in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Last month, another speedrunning glitch was uncovered, which is arguably the most important one. The speedrunning glitch, which is officially called Moon Warp, allows speedrunners to teleport straight to the final section of the game without having to beat any of the four temples.
