Man of Medan is going to be the first of eight games from Until Dawn creator Supermassive Games, and will also be the first to introduce multiplayer game modes too.

Until Dawn was a huge success for Supermassive Games, so it's only natural for them to want to build upon that success in Man of Medan. The upcoming horror game will include a whole bunch of additional features, such as two different types of multiplayer.

We learned a bit about what Man of Medan will entail in our last article back before E3. Supermassive CEO and executive producer Pete Samuels told PlayStation Blog that Man of Medan would have a much larger branching storyline than Until Dawn ever did, and would require multiple playthroughs to see every possible ending.

He also revealed that it would be the first of The Dark Pictures Anthology, but he didn't say just how many games that would entail.

In a new interview with Game Informer, Samuels gave us a number: eight. That’s how many games will be in The Dark Pictures Anthology, with Man of Medan starting us off on a ghost ship in the South Pacific. But it won’t remain alone for long.

"What we've said is we're going to hit about two a year," Samuels said. "So I mean, we already are near-release on this and we're still on track for delivering two every 12-month period."

The second game in the anthology is currently in full production, with the third just about ending its design phase. Games four and five are currently in the concept phase, with the remaining games’ stories already generally fleshed out.

There will also be new multiplayer modes so that more than one person can enjoy the game. First will be a co-op mode called Shared Story Mode, where two people play the main story at the same time. Each player will be able to make their own decision and essentially control their own character, with those decisions leading to consequences for both themselves and each other.

Movie Night is another game mode where up to four players play a single character but swap control at various points in the story. Both these modes were designed from feedback given on Until Dawn.

Man of Medan releases on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on August 30th.
