Nintendo has released clips featuring gameplay from its upcoming remastered versions of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

Mario fans had been eagerly awaiting an announcement from Nintendo all year long regarding how exactly it planned on celebrating the plumber's 35th anniversary. While not confirmed by Nintendo, it seems as if its wealth of announcements were delayed due to the pandemic. Which is why we were hit with all of them at once last week during a surprise Direct.

The highlight of the Direct was the announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. A collection that includes remastered versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The even better news is that Switch owners don't have long to wait for the collection as it will be released on September 18, 2020. It has already become the second-best-selling game of the year on Amazon behind Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The games haven't received the same level of remaster treatment as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, but they have been improved. The games will be able to be played at higher resolutions than ever before, and Nintendo has promised that all three have been optimized for smoother gameplay on the Switch. Evidence of that was revealed via the Japanese account for Mario's 35th anniversary on Twitter.

Four clips were shared in total. Two from Super Mario 64, and two from Super Mario Sunshine. The Mario 64 clips show the iconic face of the plumber that players can mess with before starting the game, and Mario jumping into the first painting and beginning the game's very first level. Sunshine's clips show the game's intro and footage of Mario spraying water here, there, and everywhere.

Honestly, it's cool to see these clips, but without a side-by-side including the originals, it is hard to see the difference. The novelty is that gamers will be able to play all three games on the same console and that they will look a little better than ever before. We're sure that will come across when playing the collection. However, it's understandable why some have questioned whether enough work has gone into the compilation to warrant a $59.99 price tag.
