Super Mario Galaxy might be over a decade old, but it's a big, big game. Released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007, Mario Galaxy has remained a firm favourite in the fanbase, and has even retained a passionate speedrunning community.

One runner has put that dedication to the test, and pulled off a run many wouldn't even want to attempt. Speedrunner ImJhay collected 242 stars in 11 hours, 40 minutes, and 15 seconds - a feat which involves completing the game 100% twice, once as Mario, and then as Luigi.

The two halves of the run are pretty evenly split, with Mario's segment taking 5:43:37, and Luigi's being 5:28:28. Yet as you can see from ImJhay's stream, the run is completed in one sitting, meaning half a day is taken up by collecting every single star in the game, twice.

ImJhay saved almost an hour from his last submitted run in the 242 stars category, which was originally 12:29:11. The world record before this was 11:47:57 from Mr.CloudKirby, which stood for almost a year. Further still, this run puts ImJhay in the top spot in two separate categories, as he also holds the world record for 120 stars as Mario, which now sits at 5:37:54 (and wow, you really don't see enough Welsh flags on speedrun.com, huh?)

The Super Mario series is, of course, no stranger to speedrunning. Most notably, Super Mario 64 maintains one of the highest active runner counts on speedrun.com, and is currently the third-highest on the site. It's beaten only by Minecraft and Muck. It even beats more recent entries in the series, such as Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Sunshine, which also retain dedicated communities.

This speedrun was completed on the original Wii release itself, which launched back in 2007. Since then Mario Galaxy has received a sequel in 2010, as well as a re-release when it was bundled with the recent Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on Nintendo Switch.
