Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues its impressive run as the game continues to top the charts.

In Switzerland, it has been the best-selling game for the past nine weeks. Nintendo’s lucrative kart racer is one of six Nintendo titles that are dominating the Swiss sales charts. Though FIFA 20 may yet rise to the top, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s dominance underlines the success of the latest entry of the popular racing series.

Outside of Switzerland, Deluxe has sold an impressive 22.96 million units worldwide according to recent sales reports. Not only that, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has smashed several sales milestones along the way. The game sold 1.2 million copies worldwide in only three days, became the first Nintendo title since Pokemon Black and White to top the UK sales charts, and eclipsed Super Mario Odyssey as the Switch’s best-selling title.

Mario Kart 8 would go on to be the Wii U’s best-selling title as well, with 8.44 million units sold worldwide on the bungled transitional console. Deluxe can potentially pass Mario Kart DS as the second best-selling game in the series, but may need some time to unseat Mario Kart Wii's 37 million units for the top spot.

Aside from Mario Kart’s dominance, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Party also hava a spot in Switzerland’s top-ten. Eventually, FIFA 20 will catch up to take the top spot if Deluxe ever happens to lose steam.

For a game to have this kind of staying power is quite impressive. Though Mario Kart games come out more frequently than any of Nintendo’s core franchises, there may not be much of an incentive to move towards a Mario Kart 9. Deluxe and Mario Kart Mobile continue to hang around as proven money makers, and Nintendo isn’t one to pull the plug when there’s coin to be made.
