The newest tour Mario Kart Tour, the Jungle Tour, is now available for players and brings with it three Donkey Kong Country-themed items: two racers in Funky Kong and Dixie Kong, and the Rambi Rider kart. This may be the most exciting tour yet, as it serves as a reminder of the greatness of Donkey Kong Country.

Upon its release, Donkey Kong Country quickly came to be one of the best 2D platformers of its time, and ever. With then-revolutionary graphics, tight and diverse gameplay, and brutal difficulty, it was an unforgettable experience. Spawning two equally hard sequels (and one superior sequel, arguably), Donkey Kong Country is an undisputed classic and represents some of developer Rare's best work to date.

Even the later entries in the series, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze were just as good as the '90s originals, though perhaps more refined.

Of course, the series got some handheld spinoffs, but the core entries are some of most exemplary platformers of all-time.

While Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are central characters to the Donkey Kong Country franchise, DK himself only appeared in three of them, while Diddy Kong appeared in four. Donkey Kong disappeared after the first entry in the series, where Dixie Kong entered the fray and lent her practical ponytail to the adventures, which she used to hover and toss barrels. Despite, the titular character's absence from the second and third installments, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest is now even more highly-regarded than the original.

Funky and Dixie's addition to Mario Kart Tour makes us remember, and miss, the extended Kong family. Will we ever see them appear in the likes of Super Smash Bros. or other Mario Kart installments? After all, King K. Rool and Banjo are both in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What gives?

All in all, however, it's great to see Nintendo giving the spotlight to characters from a classic series. Although they might be cast off by regular Mario Kart Tour players, they represent some of the best games to ever grace Nintendo systems, much less any system.

Oh, and "Gangplank Galleon" is one of the best game songs ever.
