It has been two years since the release of Mario Kart Tour and Nintendo is celebrating with an event that will feature eight new cities.

An announcement about the anniversary was made Friday on the official Twitter for Mario Kart Tour. The post includes a picture featuring some of the beloved characters from the Mario franchise, including Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Roselina, Mario, Pauline, Waluigi, Peach and Luigi. Mario Kart Tour has featured eight real world cities thus far - New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Berlin, Sydney. So it is safe to say that these will probably be the cities visited. The image seems to further verify these locations with Peach in a kimono and Luigi posing in lederhosen.

The second anniversary tour will rev up this Wednesday, September 22 at 1:00AM EST and end two weeks after - Wednesday, October 6 - as is the customary tour length in the game. If you are planning on participating, start collecting Grand Stars now, as they will make your items stronger.

You can also continue to look out for more characters, as well as courses being released to the mobile game in the future. Magikoopa Kamek - who has appeared in Mario Kart previously, but as a playable character - was added a few weeks ago. Additionally, Mario Kart Tour decided to celebrate wedding season with the addition of the Royal Raceway track, which fans will remember from the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Kart.

Mario Kart Tour is currently available on Android and iOS. The game is free to play, but an optional monthly subscription - which is referred to as a “Gold Pass” - can be purchased. The Gold Pass give you access to in-game items, as well as badges, and a 200cc mode.

In other Mario news, someone recently modded the Super Mario 64 version of Mario into well-known sandbox game - Minecraft. Since Nintendo is known to remove mods or anything viewed as a copyright violation, we can expect our mustached friend to get the pick axe soon. On another note, Lego is saying buh-bye to Mario. The beloved plastic brick building company announced that it would be “retiring” some of the Mario sets soon in the UK.
