Waluigi always seems to get the short end of the stick. He's not invited to Smash Bros., he's never appeared in a main series Mario game, and his entire personality can be summed up by wearing a goofy smile and yelling "WAAAAAAAA" while walking around looking like a character designer just stretched skin over a skeleton, gave it a hat and a mustache, and called it a day.
Now the poor walking pile of bones has been forced to race in Mario Kart on foot thanks to the cruel machinations of Niment (a user on the modding community GameBanana). Niment has recently released a mod for Mario Kart Wii importing animations from Mario Party 9 to make the lanky loser sprint across the courses as his opponents drive about in the safety of their vehicles.
Thankfully for Waluigi, those long legs of his give him some much-needed speed.
The animations are actually really well-implemented, seeing everyone's favorite unloved villain jumping, falling and stretching his legs in ways that actually make about as much sense in context as can be expected from a lanky man running along racecourses at the same speed as all the vehicles around him.
For those who may accuse the modder Niment of having it out for Waluigi, well... maybe he does. Even so, he's also got it out for his partner-in-crime Wario, as well as for his counterpart Luigi. Both have received similar mods forcing them outside of their cars.
All three of these mods were released in the past three days, meaning there's a good chance that more are coming. It's possible that by the end of Niment's battle against all things vehicular, Mario Kart Wii will end up looking something like Sega Saturn's Sonic R, though without the inexplicable soundtrack asking us if we can feel the sunshine.
Of course, this new mod does raise one final question: Why the heck is Sonic still riding around in a car in Sonic Team Racing?
