Mario Party Superstars is the newest entry in the Mario Party franchise, and it features five iconic maps from previous Mario Party games, along with fan-favorite mini-games. Each board in Mario Party Superstars is unique because they feature special mechanics and different ways to traverse the map.

Although every board in Mario Party Superstars is great in its own way, some are better than others because they balance luck and skill in a way that makes each match completely unique. These are the best boards you can play on in Mario Party Superstars, and what makes them worth playing.

5 Woody Woods

If you want to play a simple board, then Woody Woods is exactly what you'll want to play in this party game. Woody Woods is a basic map with a forest theme, and although this isn't a particularly bad theme, it isn't particularly unique either. You can travel throughout the map and collect coins; however, there aren't too many game-changing mechanics compared to a map like Space Land.

Although Woody Woods is mostly linear, there are a few different routes to take depending on where the arrows point on the board. The arrows change when you land on an Event Space, so luck determines the map's route for most of the match. The fact that the route can change instantly is the perfect type of chaotic fun that you may enjoy in Mario Party games; however, it's not as enjoyable if you prefer boards that require skill and strategy. Monty Mole can also change every arrow at once, but you have to pay with coins.

The one truly unique mechanic in Woody Woods is the trees, giving you coins or an extra dice roll if you land on the nearby Event Spaces. There's a second tree in the back of the board that does exactly the opposite by either taking coins away or sending you backward on the board. Overall, if you're looking for a beginner-friendly board that still has a few notable mechanics, then Woody Woods is perfect.

4 Peach's Birthday Cake

There's a lot about Peach's Birthday Cake that's different from the other boards in Mario Party Superstars, and it's one of the most unique maps in the game. The primary difference between Peach's Birthday Cake and other boards is that the star stays in the same location for the entire match, and it's always in the same spot even if you start a new match. This linearity guarantees a similar experience each time you play on Peach's Birthday Cake, and it removes a lot of the strategy that you can use on other boards.

However, Peach's Birthday Cake is not without its strengths because it brings a lot to the table. First off, you can pay for Piranha Plants around the board, which steal coins and stars from enemy players when they step on the space that connects to the plant. There are a few small Piranha Plants and a large one, so there is some variety with this mechanic.

Although Peach's Birthday Cake is primarily linear, there are a few alternative ways to traverse the map depending on which spaces you land on during your turn. You can take one major alternative path which brings you closer to the star; however, you'll also have to speak with Bowser on this path, which is a major downside. Additionally, there is one spot that allows you to take a small shortcut, but it isn't game-changing. Since Peach's Birthday Cake is a very linear map, you should play on it if you want a familiar experience in each match, but not if you want to play strategically.

3 Yoshi's Tropical Island

If you enjoy beach themes, then Yoshi's Tropical Island is a paradise. This party game board features two primary sections, and you need to pay Thwomps to travel between them. Each time you pay a Thwomp, the cost will increase to however many coins the previous person paid, which allows you to strategize whether it's worth paying more so that your enemies can't cross.

Other than Thwomps, there are many Event Spaces throughout Yoshi's Tropical Island, and if you land on one, then the star will switch places with Bowser. Bowser steals your coins when you visit him, so you want to avoid crossing paths if you can. There are only two possible star locations on Yoshi's Tropical Island, but it works out well because of the Thwomp mechanic. Yoshi's Tropical Island isn't the best board in Mario Party Superstars if you're interested in a strategic challenge; however, it's still a great map with lots of fun features.

2 Horror Land

Horror Land is a fun board because you can encounter a Boo in many different spots throughout the map, including a larger Boo that allows you to steal more stars or coins from your enemies. The Event Spaces in Horror Land change the time of day on the board, and although this doesn't sound like a major deal on the surface, it affects whether or not you can travel down certain paths. Usually, you'll randomly land on an Event Space, so the match can change in an instant by blocking you or an enemy off from traversing a pathway. However, there's also a lot of strategy involved in Horror Land as well since there are different paths to take and a plethora of Boo NPCs throughout the board.

There are a few shops to purchase items from, so you usually have the chance to obtain items regardless of which part of the map you're traversing. Horror Land is one of the most beloved boards in Mario Party history, and it's easy to see why considering how it blends luck and strategy into the perfect experience.

1 Space Land

Space Land is one of the best Mario Party boards for one simple reason, which is that it's massive. There are many different directions to travel throughout the board and many features in each path that make them all worthwhile for different reasons. There's also a unique mechanic where every time you or an enemy walks across the middle of the board, a counter will count down by one. When the counter reaches zero, it will activate a blast that can knock you off if you happen to be in its way, which will steal all of your coins.

Additionally, you can pay Patrols to chase your enemies backwards on the board if they land on an Event Space. Every match in Space Land is a different experience, and strategy is incredibly important for this board, which is why it's the best board in Mario Party Superstars.
