On May 19th, American actress Meghan Markle will wed Prince Harry of the British royal family. According to the wedding's website, the marriage is to take place at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. This is for sure a substantial event. In fact, the event is so big, that it appears that even the United Kingdom's branch of Nintendo can't help but capitalize on it. Over at Reddit, a user called LondonCollector posted an image of what looks like a Super Mario Odyssey poster in celebration of the royal wedding. Of course, this also works as clever promotion for Odyssey.

The poster features Mario in his tuxedo, and Peach in her wedding gown. One should recognize the renders, as they were used on the Super Mario Odyssey Amiibo boxes. While not original art, it works as eye-catching promotion. The tagline reads, "Hats off to the Royal couple." What is a little odd though is that despite the tagline, Mario is seen with his hat on. In fact, there is no hat being taken off in the poster, so maybe a different tagline should have been used.

Nonetheless, this is clever advertising. It is fun to see the iconic characters outside the places one would expect. The advertising also works because Odyssey has a wedding backdrop driving the plot. The game's story features Bowser once again kidnapping Princess Peach, and it's up to Mario to save the day. This time however, Bowser intends to marry Peach. The final world takes place on the moon, where Mario jumps in and crashes the wedding.

The game takes a look at the relationship between Mario and Peach through the song, 'Break Free (Lead the Way).' Some lyrics from this song include:

"Nobody believes in me and you, just look at the way they stare | So what if we live in a walled garden, as long as I've got you then I don't care."

"Look in your eyes and I know we'll be fine | So let's shoot for the stars and make this love really shine."

'Break Free (Lead the Way)' is a lovely song that is expertly used in the climax of the game. Unfortunately, a wedding between the two characters does not happen. At the very least, a royal wedding will happen later this month, and it looks like Mario and Peach have offered their sincere regards based on the poster. Hopefully Nintendo will give gaming's favorite couple their proper wedding someday.
