While he typically lends his voice to roles in television and movies, there is no denying his star power and performance abilities in games. Mark Hamill has and can do it all.

Updated by Sachi Go on February 14, 2023: With leaked footage of Squadron 42 and the return of CitizenCon, there has been renewed hype for the prospect of Mark Hamill’s turn as Lieutenant Commander Steve Colton in the Star Citizen universe. While we await the moment we can finally face him in-game, it’s good to know this isn’t the only game Hamill has graced. As one of the most talented celebrity voice actors in the business, he has had plenty of other gems under his belt through the years. Let’s take a look at some of his most memorable key performances where he really elevated the games they were featured in just using his emotive voice and signature flair.

12 X2: Wolverine’s Revenge - Logan

Wolverine gets up from a crash as plane rubble surrounds him

It’s hard to imagine a piece of Wolverine media that doesn’t have Hugh Jackman in the role (including this one, since his face is on the cover), and he leaves some very iconic shoes to fill. If there’s one man to do that job and do it well, it’s Mark Hamill.

His performance is not only memorable for how it stands out from the Wolverine known by mainstream audiences, but also because he does an amazing job of embodying Logan’s character in his prime. There is no trace of Joker in here, despite the recording happening during his stint with the Batman animated show. He’s defiant, angry, and unmistakably cool. If you were ever a fan of the comics, his voice for Logan perfectly fits the bill.

11 Full Throttle - Ripburger, Emmet, and Todd

Full Throttle, which was remastered for PC in 2017, is a stellar example of the top-tier adventure games that defined the ‘90s. It’s led by a stunning cast of characters, many of whom lead back to Mark Hamill.

Hamill is a great contrast to Roy Conrad’s Ben, making Adrian Ripburger really feel like a menacing and gargantuan opponent. Without Hamill’s work, who knows if Ripburger would even be considered one of the best villains in adventure games? And as if that wasn’t already enough to earn this spot, he also plays Todd and Emmett and still manages to make these characters sound like three distinctive individuals.

10 Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex - Py-Ro

Py-Ro grits his teeth in front of a black background

Mark Hamill has had quite a few turns in the Crash Bandicoot series, but he really stamps his name as Py-Ro the snappy, hot-headed fire elemental in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Despite not being a major character, every time he’s on the screen is palpable.

He knocks it out of the park as the rhyme-throwing villain that is both enjoyable and an absolute nuisance that reminds you you’ve done this level about ten times too many. If someone had to “git gud” you, at least it Py-Ro does it in a fun way.

9 Goro Majima - Yakuza

Goro Majima tilts his head back in a taunt.

The Yakuza series is beloved by many, but unless you played the original back in 2006, you likely missed out on Mark's role as villain Goro Majima. Despite Majima's bad guy demeanor, the role also brings some dark humor that fits in nicely with his performance.

In one scene he gets hit in the head by a baseball and starts laughing and encourages his goons to laugh too. When one of them doesn't, he beats him with a baseball bat. In a funny turn, Mark has admitted in a tweet he does not remember the role. Despite this, it still stands as a memorable performance in his long and varied career.

8 Alkari Emperor - Master Of Orion

The Akari Emperor stands looking proud.

Master of Orion is a strategy game set in space with a variety of factions to choose to play as, and Mark Hamill voices the Alkari Emperor, the leader of the bird-like Alkari. They are one of the major civilizations and factions you can choose from and are warriors trained in flight-based combat.

Mark Hamill goes back to his good-natured roots as he voices the wise and thoughtful Emperor. While it is a bit of a departure from the villainous characters he usually voices, he shows how to fully realize a smaller role.

7 Fire Lord Ozai - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Into The Inferno

Ozai stands with arms outstretched as flames shoot out around him

Several characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender found their way into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, proving the series still remains a favorite to this day. Before that, Into the Inferno debuted as the third game in the series in 2008, with Mark Hamill reprising his role as Fire Lord Ozai from the show.

Just like in the show, Fire Lord Ozai has a fiery passion for making everyone's life a living hell in the game. In the final battle, Aang and company face off against Ozai, and Mark shines as he taunts and belittles before ultimately being defeated.

6 Narrator - Let It Die

A figure stands with their sword drawn.

Let It Die, the predecessor to Deathverse: Let It Die, was a free-to-play hack-and-slash game from Grasshopper Manufacture. In the game, a tectonic disaster splits Japan into sectors and a huge spire bursts from the ground into the sky. Adventurers are tasked with climbing to the top.

In it, Mark Hamill has a small but pivotal role as the game's narrator. He helps set the tone for the dystopian adventure with his signature deep and gruff voice, and it is easy to get hooked when Mark Hamill is the one telling the story.

5 Malefor - The Legend Of Spyro: Dawn Of The Dragon

Malefor and Spyro fly and fight in flames.

Malefor is the main villain in The Legend of Spyro trilogy and brings destruction and ruin everywhere he goes. It is no wonder Mark, who voices villains more often than not, fits in perfectly when voicing Malefor.

Despite limited screentime, Mark uses every second of it to shine in the role. Malefor is cunning and manipulative, and even with some choice voice filtering being used, his performance as Malefor still is a masterclass in how to turn a small role into something memorable as he strikes doubt and fear into Spyro before their final battle.

4 Trickster - LEGO DC Super-Villains

Trickster stands in a city street with a sly grin on his face.

There's not much more that can make you feel like a kid than playing with LEGOs. Thankfully there are a number of LEGO-based video games that hit with the nostalgia, and LEGO DC Super-Villains hits with a double dose of nostalgia thanks to its cast of villains in LEGO form.

Mark Hamill voices Trickster, an unlockable character in the game. He is gleefully sinister as he slings and juggles chickens on a course of destruction with Trickster's signature maniacal laughter.

3 The Watcher - Darksiders

The Watcher stands in front of a large stone door.

The Watcher is a merciless character who is delightfully evil and sadistic. He acts as the guide for War, the protagonist of Darksiders, in the game, and they’re shackled together and Mark perfectly encapsulates the wickedness the Watcher needs to remain a successful character.

The Watcher is tasked with making sure War goes through with his journey. It is quite a ride getting to hear the perfect blend of evilness and sly humor Mark Hamill brings to The Watcher. It’s also one of his few roles that let him showcase a more raspy, vulgar, and foul-mouthed character, and thanks to the nature of The Watcher's role, there is a lot of him to see throughout the game.

2 Master Eraqus - Kingdom Hearts Series

Master Eraqus leans forward ready to battle.

Despite having a convoluted and sometimes hard-to-follow story, Kingdom Hearts has a huge cast of beloved characters. Master Eraqus, who first appeared in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, is a strong warrior determined to keep the peace amongst all worlds.

Mark Hamill does a great job of balancing Master Eraqus's determined spirit and leadership sensibilities in his performance across both Birth By Sleep and Kingdom Hearts 3. Even though Eraqus can sometimes be cold to his students, Mark does a great job of bringing warmth to the character.

1 The Joker - Batman Arkham Asylum

The Joker looks into the camera as he applies lipstick.

Most consider Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoneix's performances as The Joker to be the best, but Mark Hamill's take on the iconic comic book villain in the Batman games is truly a masterclass in voice acting and deserves to be mentioned among their performances. The craft of voice acting is a notoriously difficult one to perfect, but he does it with The Joker.

He brings the perfect amount of humor to a character who is fueled by his own insanity and is responsible for a number of atrocities. It would be easy to get lost in all the nuances of Joker, but Mark Hamill is able to juggle his intelligence, homicidal tendencies, and sinister hilarity for one of the most memorable voice-acting performances ever.
