A few days ago, Meta, one of the world's leading social media and technology companies revealed a look at its free-to-play virtual reality game, Horizons World. The metaverse project is now live in France and Spain, and will be rolled out in more regions soon. However, the announcement didn't get the reception that Mark Zuckerberg wanted, with a vast number of people making fun of its frankly terrible visuals, which resemble those from Nintendo games of over a decade ago.
Zuck has now responded to the ridicule, saying that this wasn't the final look of the project, and that it will see major improvements over time. "Major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics coming soon," he said via a post on Instagram. "I'll share more at Connect. Also, I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic -- it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch. The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more -- even on headsets -- and Horizon is improving very quickly."
He shared that update with what looked like a Fortnite avatar of himself, as well as some ruins with beanbags lying around. Yes, the visuals do look better in these new images, but as video game enthusiasts, we know not to get excited by stills and trailers – does it run at 60fps mark?
Hopefully, as Zuckerberg mentioned, we'll soon get to see a much better version of Horizons World in terms of visuals. The reveal was made fun of due to the fact that the visuals looked severely outdated, like something you'd currently find among Walmart's bargain bin Nintendo games. Once that was pointed out, the internet took over and used the image to make cover art for imaginary games called World Baby and My Meta Summer Holiday for the Nintendo DS and Wii. It doesn't help that Mark Zuckerberh's avatar looks just as soulless as himself.
Meta's own chatbot had some choice words about its creator. When asked about Zuckerberg, it said, "he is a good businessman, but his business practices are not always ethical. It is funny that he has all this money and still wears the same clothes!"
