Deadpool was one of those movies that no one expected to be as successful as it was, even though it’s Marvel, and even if they do kind of own the world. Deadpool was released by 20th Century Fox before the distribution company was purchased by Disney, and the movie didn’t even have the rights to use the X-Men characters. Deadpool was also the first R-rated Marvel superhero movie and people loved it immensely. It relaunched Ryan Reynolds’ career, and reminded everyone that you can still make the superhero genre feel fresh and new.

This winning blend of raunchiness, comedy, low-stakes plot and a smaller production value than other superhero movies made Deadpool very interesting. It’s very intriguing to wonder what that means for the future of the franchise. Even though the creators know that Deadpool works only because it’s so different from the Avengers, it’s hard to imagine them not making this franchise into another cinematic universe unto itself. Spoilers: that’s exactly what they’re planning.

However, no matter what the future holds for Deadpool, his independent films will remain a beacon of hope. He might end up becoming an Avenger, or he might show up in the latest Spider-Man movie, but we’ll always have the character’s independent appearances, which will probably be great. Hopefully.

Deadpool 2 is coming soon and it’s sequel is already in development, so you’ll have your fill of Deadpool for as long as people keep watching them; which will be for a really long time. Check out the following Deadpool confirmed facts and juicy rumors, that are both great and promising!

20 Confirmed: After-Credit Scene!

Like with the original Deadpool, where the after credits scene teased the introduction of Cable, Deadpool 2's after credits scene might introduce an X-Force movie, which is already under production and features Ryan Reynolds.

According to the description of the movie, The X-Force's plot revolves around a time traveler who assembles a team of mutants in order to prevent the future. This time traveler sounds a lot like Cable, which means that Deadpool 2 will fill an important void when it comes to explaining these characters motives and their universe.

The really interesting part in all of this is the fact that, according to the X-Force comics, Deadpool is one of the main antagonists of the series, with Cable being the leader of the group. What does it all mean for the Deadpool movies?

I'm just as confused as you are.

19 We Hope Is True: Including Mutants!

While Domino and Cable were cast openly with introductions to audiences and appearances on teasers and posters, other characters have been kept tightly under wraps. This is making people suspicious and wary about who'll show up next on the casting list.

Deadpool 2's latest trailer explains that Wade will be protecting a mutant kid who’s being hunted by Cable.

During the course of all of this, Deadpool will look for other mutants and band with them as a way of defeating Cable, forming the X-Force. These characters are rumored to be Psylocke, Domino, Surge, Bedlam, Shatterstar, and maybe even Professor X! Will the characters be reprised by actors from the X-Men films? Who knows, I just hope that they creators don't forget that Deadpool is the true star of the movie.

18 Confirmed: The Antagonist's Identity

via Sky News

Once the sequel was approved, the question everyone was asking was concerning the antagonist. Which character was going to play the bad guy? Which actor could oppose Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? It would be Cable!

Cable has a long history of comic book appearances, and he’s also a pretty interesting character.

He’s from the future, and his parents are Scott Summers and Jean Grey’s double, which is all sorts of weird. Cable is also a great foil to Deadpool, and he's much more interesting than Ajax, the bad guy from the previous movie who was as bland as any character can be.

The casting process for Cable was long, with dozens of actors being named as the ones who were finally going to embody the character, including Brad Pitt, Kyle Chandler and Liam Neeson. Marvel finally decided to go for Josh Brolin, who’s looking pretty buff for his role.

17 We Hope Is True: A Ridiculous Machine

Always with the jokes! According to Movie Web, Deadpool 2’s secret working title was Love Machine. Secret titles prevent people from knowing which movie the cast and crew are actually shooting, this is very important for big movies, such as the ones made by Marvel.

Now that the movie is about to be released, we do know that most of it was shot in Vancouver and in other parts of British Columbia.

Don’t worry though, the title Love Machine won’t show up anywhere on the movie or the poster, because it has nothing to do with the film... I hope? Maybe it’ll show up as an inside joke for those who know of the film’s working title, but that’d be too meta, even for Deadpool.

16 Confirmed: Double Casting?

via Dailysuperheroes.com

I think Fox wasn’t aware that Disney would purchase them, and they decided to cast their main villain for 2018’s Avengers in their 2018 version of Deadpool. Maybe Josh Brolin slipped through the Marvel cracks and they forgot that they’d cast him recently. Or maybe no one cares?

The MCU is confusing enough without explaining the added intricacies between Fox and Disney.

It was super confusing when there were two Quicksilvers during the span of two years, with Age of Ultron and with X-Men: Days of Future Past. I can't imagine now what people will say when two of the year's biggest movies share the same villain, since Brolin is both Thanos and Cable. Ok, granted, in one movie he’s a purple giant, and on the other one he has a metallic arm.

It's still pretty confusing.

15 We Hope Is True: Deadpool Parties It Up!

via Twitter user X-Men Updates

Deadpool 2 was shot in secrecy, with no one having a lot of information regarding the plot of the film and the status of it's main character. The only images that audiences saw were the ones released by the creators, and these included some leaks.

These leaks feature Ryan Reynolds in his Deadpool costume, crashing a kid's birthday and crowdsurfing through the party.

This sounds like it could appear on the film, but it also sounds like Ryan Reynolds might have just been crowdsurfing at some kids' birthday party. Either scenario seems pretty plausible to me.

Maybe Reynolds wanted to be nice with his fans, even though Deadpool is the least appropriate movie for kids. Or maybe this scene will show up on the movie, and Wade has a secret mission where he needs to go to some kid's birthday party.

14 Confirmed: Deadpool's New Owners

via Youtube user Butch Hartman

Due to Disney’s plan to take over the world one company at a time, the deal that took years to consolidate finally happened. Disney now owns 20th Century Fox, meaning that the company now has all the rights to the Deadpool and X-Men movies.

If you think this doesn’t mean that a crossover won’t happen anytime soon, then you’re sadly mistaken. The X-Force will be the first official union of all the characters, but maybe some Avengers will pop up, who knows. Even though the films are drastically different, I wouldn’t put it past Disney to try to make something out of it.

Never thought I’d want to see a mashup of Deadpool and Mickey Mouse, or Deadpool and Aladdin.

Actually, that's what I want.

13 We Hope Is True: New Super Powers?

via Screen Rant

While Deadpool is basically invisible and practically immortal, the original movie didn't tease out the extent of his abilities. Different sources believe Deadpool might get new super powers in order to beat Cable, since he is a character that's literally from another dimension and who travels through time.

This addition of Cable reveals a much more open world with more possibilities for Deadpool, which wasn't the case with the first movie. The first film felt more gritty, grounded and based on our real world.

I have mixed thoughts on Deadpool gaining super powers. It would be cool to see the character with super strength, endurance, and acquiring some fancy future gadgets, all of which have appeared on the comic books, but it would maybe strip the movie of the things that made it so original in the first place.

12 Confirmed: Returning Favorites

via Trailer Addict

Fan favorites like Dopinder, Weasel and Vanessa will be back, despite rumors surrounding TJ Miller’s involvement in the film. Other characters such as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus will also return with larger roles, joining the amazing Blind Al, which was easily the best character from the first movie.

Even though the first Deadpool movie didn’t have a ton of characters, you can expect different things from it’s sequel.

This was harder in the first film because of rights and financial reasons, but the larger budget of the sequel will change everything. That budget is bound to increase once the sequel is successful, and the new availability of the Marvel characters makes us believe that things will be different the second and third times around.

11 We Hope Is True: Important Characters Revealed!

Finally, one of Marvel's most intriguing characters with one of the most original super powers will make her big screen debut! Even though there will be tons of different characters from the comics that’ll make appearances, Deadpool made a pretty big deal out of casting Domino. They've released images of her and displayed her a lot in the trailers.

By casting Zazie Beats, the creators made it clear that she’ll play an important role on the Deadpool universe.

Domino is a great character that’s been around Deadpool from the very beginning, both characters being introduced on the same Comic Issue. Like Deadpool, she’s also a mercenary who has shifting allegiances, and who may surprise us during the course of the movie. I just wish that Domino's coolness were reason enough for her to get her own movie. God knows Marvel needs more female-led films.

10 Confirmed: The Julian Dennison Mystery

via Comic Book

The young actor hasn't done much except for his appearance on Hunt For The Wilder People, where he acted opposite Sam Neill. Dennison came aboard Deadpool in June 2017, and even though his character hasn't been identified, his presence on the trailer is large and he looks pretty powerful, and capable of controlling fire.

Even though Cable looks kind of intense in the trailers, it's easy to assume that this kid will grow up to be some kind of scary enemy, capable of unleashing a bleak world. The Nerdist believes Dennison might play Neal Shaara, a powerful mutant that's also known as Thunderbird.

If the character isn't Thunderbird, the he could be any of the fire wielding mutants on the X-Men comics, such as Pyro, Firefist or Match.

9 We Hope Is True: Team Deadpool!

Via Nerdist.com

An interesting rumor that keeps popping up is the fact that Deadpool, Cable and Domino will all end up being a part of the same team.

This information can be traced back to the comic books where, on Domino's first appearance, she protected Cable from Deadpool, fighting him several times. Even though superhero movies are very different from their source material, some of this could translate into the final product of the Deadpool 2, especially with the focus that it apparently has on building the X-Force.

While seeing the X-Force come together will surely be very cool, it's kind of annoying that Marvel is so keen on building yet another team for their roster. Where are the independent superhero stories that don't tie into another preexisting narrative?

Oh, that's right. They don't exist.

8 Confirmed: The Copycat

Everyone was a little shocked and disappointed when Vanessa was introduced in the last movie as an average human, when in the comic books she's a mutant with really cool shape shifting powers and bright blue skin.

According to CBR, actress Morena Baccarin teased an "evolution" for Vanessa. We all know what that means, especially for a movie that takes place in a world where The X-Men exist. Evolution means mutants!

These new powers could come from the fact that she spent a lot of time on a vacuum tube, the one where Wade gained his abilities, during the last part of the film. Deadpool rescued her in the nick of time, but she still could've been affected and developed some sort of mutation.

7 We Hope Is True: The Film's True Villain

Deadline reports that actor Jack Kesy was cast for a role that wasn't revealed to the public, making a lot of people speculate over the character he'll be playing. What if he could be playing the film's main villain?

Black Tom Cassidy is one of Deadpool's most famous villains, and he has also battled the X-Men.

He's capable of manipulating, bonding, and projecting energy through plants, which sounds sweet, but also very creepy and dangerous.

Jack Kesy is known for portraying interesting and dark characters, having roles on The Alienist and The Strain, making him a good choice to play a villain that has never made it to the screen until now. I just hope the movie doesn't get lost in the abundance of plot lines, villains and heroes.

6 Confirmed: Constant Direction

via Sky News

With the success of the original Deadpool, you’d think the studio would try to stick with the same director and formula for the sequel, much like Wonder Woman or Black Panther did, but this is not the case with Deadpool 2. The first film’s director, Tim Miller, dropped out due to creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, where tensions were so high that the studio had to decide who remained on board.

Reynolds obviously won that battle, and the director was changed.

Deadpool 2 will be directed will by David Leitch, who’s known for his amazing stunt work and direction in action movies like John Wick and Atomic Blonde. This film will have a larger budget and, as we’ve seen from the trailer, more action scenes. This means that Leitch will get the opportunity to show off and bring something new to the table.

5 We Hope Is True: The Return Of X-23

via Nerdist.com

This is very weird, but I guess it could make some sort of sense, if the creators tackle it with the right mindset. Dafne Keen is one of the only characters to show up on a Marvel R-rated film, making her fit right in the world of Deadpool, even though her character provides no comic relief and is very dark. At least, she'd fit better than other original X-Men characters. Kind of.

According to different sources, Marvel wanted Hugh Jackman to make an appearance on Deadpool 2, but he expressed that he was through with playing Wolverine, making his last appearance on the very successful Logan.

Cable comes from the future, maybe X-23 is from that same timeline? Nothing has been confirmed, but who could be a better replacement for Wolverine than his own daughter?

4 Confirmed: Still A Deadpool Story

Image result for deadpool

You may think that a bigger budget and a larger cast means that Deadpool will change for the worse, and that it will lose sight of its main character. The writers and director assure that that will not the case, and that they’re trying to maintain the original feeling of the first film.

Writer Rhett Reese claimed that, even though they added some new characters and the X-Force onto Deadpool 2, the spotlight will still be on Wade Wilson, no matter how interesting the other characters become.

This is reassuring, because even though the film is opening doors to a new universe, it’s important that Deadpool remains separate and different from other Marvel movies, which is why people loved it and flocked to it in the first place.

3 We Hope Is True: Not Just A Hero?

via Nerdist

While this does sound weird and is a total bummer, Deadpool doesn't seem like the guy who'd be happy to play around with a large group of people. This especially means the X-Force, which is a literal band of super heroes. I also wouldn't put it past the creators of the movie to pull the rug out from under us in this way.

According to CBR, some people believe that the real villain of the film could be a Deadpool clone. This story sounds a little bit too "been there done that", especially considering what Marvel just did with Logan, but I wouldn't be surprised if a clone pops up somewhere on this franchise.

According to this crazy theory, Deadpool would have to battle himself in order to save lives. We'll see what ends up happening.

2 Confirmed: More 4th Wall Breaks!

I’ve expressed throughout this list, the character of Cable will be a different sort of villain, one who’ll be relatable, who might become a good guy, and who’ll pose an interesting challenge for Deadpool.

Cable also has an interesting anti-hero background. If all the rumors surrounding Deadpool 2 are true, he will play an important role within the X-Force group, and within later movies of the universe.

On a recent interview, Josh Brolin expressed that the writers and director were doing some interesting things in Deadpool 2, and that his character might address the controversy over getting cast in both Avengers: Infinity War and in Deadpool 2, addressing the real world directly. I don’t know how well it’ll work to see Cable, a serious and tough guy, breaking the 4th wall for comedic purposes, but at least it'll be interesting.

1 We Hope Is True: The Phoenix's Appearance

via Marvel.com

The introduction of Cable is making people wonder about a million different things. His background, as interesting as it is, can also produce tons of questions that the X-Men universe might not be able to answer. And, as you can see by this article, the X-Men and Deadpool are very closely related together.

Cable is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey's clone, meaning that, even though Jean Grey isn't his real mom, they share DNA. Many people speculate that Jean could make a cameo, and even though she's my favorite mutant, I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

Deadpool 2 has its plate full with the amount of characters they're planning on introducing and the new franchise that they're trying to create. We feel like adding Jean Grey would just rock the boat.

Does that mean that Sansa Stark is Cable's mom? Oh boy.
