It’s fair to say that the Marvel Cinematic Universe managed to craft one of the widest enjoyed and most beloved stories of all time with its over-a-decade-long Infinity Saga. As the MCU moves into relatively unknown territory filled with new characters, and beloved ones entering their supposedly final films, they’ll need some new stories to work on.

Luckily, Marvel has plenty of incredible video game stories to pull from. While heroes like Spider-Man and the X-Men have received more love in the medium of gaming than most other Marvel heroes and teams, there are still tons of stories that could end up as the next big blockbuster.

10 Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage

Fans of the Super Nintendo will remember the bright red cartridge that graced the system. Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage was a side-scrolling beat-em-up that essentially retold the events of the Maximum Carnage storyline from the comics making it a great story to adapt to the big screen.

Seeing Spider-Man team up with Venom, Black Cat, Captain America, and even more unique heroes to take on Carnage and his band of evil misfits would make for a huge event. While we have seen Carnage and Venom go at it in the Sonyverse, we’re yet to see Spider-Man take on one of his most dangerous foes.

9 X-Men 2: Clone Wars

Gambit takes on a boss in X-Men 2: Clone Wars

Another game that was at least partly based on the popular comics of the era, X-Men 2: Clone Wars deals with the menace of the Phalanx. The entire sprawling adventure features plenty of iconic X-Men and even more underutilized enemies.

The story features plenty of X-Men favorites like Nightcrawler, Gambit, Psylocke, and many more - something that we’ll hopefully see when the team finally makes its MCU debut. The threat of the Phalanx takes the team to many iconic locations and is a potentially world-ending threat, perfect for an X-Men outing.

8 Marvel’s Midnight Sons

The Midnight Sons are ready for action.

There seem to be quite a few people who are excited for Marvel’s Midnight Sons. Using a team like the Midnight Sons is a great way to delve into the more supernatural aspects of the Marvel universe, something that could keep the MCU feeling fresh.

The game will see players creating their own unique hero to stop both Hydra and the mother of all demons, Lillith. With plenty of iconic heroes to work with, there’s a lot that could be done with a supernatural story packed with fantastic characters.

7 X-Men: Next Dimension

Most fighting games feature relatively bare-bones stories, but it seems like X-Men: Next Dimension was a game that put its fun, but occasionally dark, story first. The entire game was actually meant as a sequel story to a comic storyline giving the writers plenty to work with.

The game features some of the most iconic mutants of all time, a fully fleshed-out Brotherhood of Mutants, and plenty of Sentinel chaos. The story has another world-ending threat courtesy of another top-tier X-Men villain, Bastion. It’s the kind of story that could act as a kind of X-Men: Endgame.

6 Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

To be fair, there really isn’t much of a story in this game outside of characters being forced together to fight. Regardless, there is so much that could be done with a concept like this on the big screen.

If the film aimed for campy enjoyment over ultra-serious heroics, both Marvel and Capcom could make off with a lot of money. The more grounded take on many of Marvel’s famous heroes would make it more realistic for regular martial artists, knights, and special agents to be able to hold their own in a fight. Anything can happen once the multiverse is open.

5 X-Men Legends

There’s a reason that X-Men Legends is arguably the best possible X-Men game storyline for the MCU to use, and that’s the fact that we haven’t even seen the X-Men yet. The story follows a new young mutant as she becomes a member of the team.

The story can feel a bit standard, but the concept is something that could serve as an excellent way to introduce the team for the first time if adapted well. Not only that, being able to see the team through the eyes of a scared newbie could help viewers connect with the characters even more.

4 Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows

If the words, “symbiote invasion” don’t immediately catch your attention, you may need to take in some more Spider-Man content. While the game itself isn’t anything amazing, the ambitious story could be incredible on the big screen thanks to the cameos alone.

Luckily, many of the characters involved are actually being introduced relatively soon with the likes of Moon Knight making an appearance, Wolverine showing up, and even Kingpin, who was recently thrown into the MCU continuity. There’s a lot that could be done with this story as we move into a slightly older and more mature Peter Parker in our MCU.

3 Marvel Nemesis: Rise Of The Imperfects

One player selects Spider-Man and another selects Niles Van Rokel

Marvel Nemesis: Rise Of The Imperfects is a strange fighting game that never seems to be talked about by Marvel fans. It combined Marvel’s heaviest hitters with some entirely new characters to tell an admittedly dark story.

While there are some high-profile character deaths in this story, the real focus would be on the new team of villains. Telling an MCU story primarily from the perspective of the villains is something that fans have been clamoring for more of since Infinity War, and being able to introduce an entire group of characters as a serious threat would be fascinating.

2 Spider-Man PS4

With how popular Insomniac’s take on the famous web-slinger was, it won't be surprising if aspects of this story are somehow worked into the MCU at some point. It was one of the best games released in 2018 for the story alone.

While there are some obvious story beats the MCU wouldn’t be able to hit at this point, pulling more from the Mr. Negative storyline featuring Devil’s Breath is something that could introduce a new and fearsome foe for the MCU. As the MCU’s Peter Parker grows up, his stories should too.

1 Marvel Ultimate Alliance

The beauty of Marvel Ultimate Alliance is that the entire story could actually be converted into a series of movies. It puts some of the most popular characters from the marvel universe together to take on Doctor Doom.

It’s likely that we’ll see fractured teams and butting heads for a little while, so finally bringing all the heroes together to form an Ultimate Alliance against an even greater threat than Thanos would be incredible. A team featuring Wolverine, Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, and Spider-Man is something any Marvel fan can get behind.
