With each new season of Marvel Snap, the game introduces new locations, cards, and features to the game. The game is already packed to the brim with content, despite being relatively young in its lifespan. With the latest update, we're introduced to the Savage Land and its inhabitants.

Savage Land provides a great contrast to the previous theme, Power Cosmic. In the comic books, Savage Land is a tropical, prehistoric land in Antarctica. Thus, the characters are largely in theme with ancient history and wildlife. Marvel Snap beat the MCU to the punch with Savage Land, giving us a view of the wonders it holds before the movies.

5 Shanna The She-Devil

Shanna, The She-Devil, is another great character that deserves more spotlight on her than she got. She's the wife of Kazar, a staple in Marvel Snap. Despite her looking like a wild warrior, she's an accomplished veterinarian too. All these interesting qualities aside, Shanna is a card that leaves a lot to be desired. On Reveal, Shanna adds a random 1-Cost card to each location. That's a great effect thematically, perfectly complimenting her husband Kazar, but it's a bit lackluster. Her meddling stats of 4/2 doesn't help her case either.

The 1-Cost Swarm deck is one of the best in the lower ladder, as it spams the field with tons of cards and buffs them up. However, Shanna feels redundant in that strategy. To begin with, the cards she adds are random, so they could even be cards you'd rather not have. On top of that, you're spending four energy for 4/2 and three 1-Cost cards. At that point, you could opt to play four known to be good 1-Cost cards manually. While thematic and synergetic with Kazar and Zabu, there are more streamlined cards that cost four energy.

4 Shadow King

Shadow King, as revealed by his name, is not a chill guy. He's described as the dark side of the human consciousness, spawned by the first nightmare. He uses Amahl Farouk, a Kingpin lookalike, as his host. These two are your typical villains with little redemption, if at all. Funny enough, Shadow-King doesn't have that destructive of an effect, leaning towards more disruption. On Reveal, Shadow King sets all cards at their location to their original base Power.

The effect could absolutely neutralize some threats, such as Sunspot, Angela, Black Panther, and Vulture. It also makes the effects of meta cards like Blue Marvel and Kazar meaningless for a location. Despite all that, Shadow King is not amazing due to its steep cost. Playing a 6/4 to lower your opponent's power in a single location is rarely worth it. Instead, you could play a more impactful 6-Cost card to strengthen your own side. While not amazing, Shadow King is a decent tech option and could become commonplace depending on the meta.

3 Sauron

Sauron (not the one from Lord of the Rings), once known as Karl Lykos, is a very interesting character and a great card. It has the ability to remove the Ongoing abilities from all cards in your hand and deck when it's revealed. That may seem detrimental at first, but it can be abused with the right deck to amazing results. While many cards have beneficial Ongoing effects, some are given rather bad ones to balance out their stats.

Some premier examples to couple with Sauron are Red Skull, Typhoid Mary, and Lizard. These cards are already used in decks with a similar card to Sauron, Zero. Thus, Sauron finds an absolutely welcoming home with Zero decks, erasing the pesky downsides of high-stat cards. You might not draw Sauron and be stuck with some detrimental effects, though, so it is a bit of a high-risk, high-reward deck. On top of that, you get to use a meme as a power card, as Sauron's line about not wanting to cure cancer has become an internet classic.

2 Dazzler

Dazzler, aka Alison Blaire, used to be a singer before joining the X-Men and using her abilities for good. Her mutant power is the ability to turn sound into light. She has a vague set of light powers, ranging from light shows to creating hard light constructs, ala Green Lantern. Luckily, her effect in Marvel Snap is way more streamlined and consistent. She gets +6 Power if you have four cards at each location. That, on a 4/4 card, makes Dazzler a great pick for swarming decks.

Many of the best decks in Marvel Snap aim to fill locations with powerful cards anyways. Decks like Wong/White Tiger, 1-Cost Swarm, and even Patriot decks utilize cards that summon other cards. This makes Dazzler a safe bet to get to ten Power consistently. While not game-warping like some other cards, Dazzler is a reliable pick for a 4-cost card. Its cost also synergizes with Zabu, making her that much more potent.

1 Zabu

Marvel Snap - Zabu on a blurred background

Zabu is the Battle Pass card of the season and the poster child for the whole expansion. It has an Ongoing effect that reduces the energy cost of 4-Cost cards by 2. That's a game-changing effect, and Zabu is not that bad itself, being a 3/2. The ability being Ongoing is also great, meaning you can take advantage of it for three full turns, or even four, with Magik.

4-Cost cards are where the very impactful abilities begin to show their heads in Marvel Snap. Great cards like Ghost Rider, Jubilee, Moon Girl, and Wong all cost 4. With Zabu, you can absolutely spam these cards in the latter half of a game, which could lead to a swarm of amazing cards by the end of the game.
