Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was originally announced during the 2018 Game Awards. It was a surprise, as the series had received no new installments in years. During Nintendo's February Direct, the company showed a new trailer, confirming fan favorite characters for the roster.

Not only is Captain Marvel confirmed, but so is Venom and Iron Fist. The narrator states "Defenders," so assuming this is the modern incarnation of the team, we can expect to see Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones. Jessica would be new to the series, but all these other characters have appeared before. Of course, it's being made a big deal because Ultimate Alliance 3 is likely many players' first Marvel console game. Venom recently made big money in the box office, and Captain Marvel is getting her movie next month. It's smart marketing for new fans.

Although we already knew about local and online multiplayer from Marvel's press release, it's good to see it talked about in the video. Ultimate Alliance is best played with other people, and you'll be able to play the third game in the series together locally with one Switch in TV mode. If you have another pair of Joy-Con, three others can jump in. It is also possible to play in handheld mode, but you'll need multiple Switches that way. It will also be interesting to see how online co-op will be implemented. The one new thing showcased in the video is the Alliance Extreme attack, which are the characters' most powerful moves. These can be combined with other players, making for some explosive finishes.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 brings together characters from throughout the Marvel universe - The Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more in the battle against Thanos and his Black Order. The original trailer also highlighted other Marvel antagonists, including Ultron, Kingpin, Ronan, and Green Goblin. It seems like some of these villains will acquire Infinity Stones. Whether or not they are in league with Thanos remains to be seen. Team Ninja is developing the game.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch this summer.
