It has been well over a week since the release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Nintendo Switch. If you picked up the game on release day, you have likely assembled your perfect band of heroes by now, or you're getting pretty close to doing so. There are certainly a lot of heroes to choose from too, including Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and even lesser-known heroes such as Ghost Rider and Elektra.

What makes a hero a superhero is something that has been hotly debated by Marvel and DC fans for decades. There is no question that heroes such as Superman and Captain America have superpowers. However, the likes of Iron Man and Batman are simply "better" than your average Joe or Jane due to the fact they have a bunch of money and the brainpower to create fancy gadgets. Gadgets that they carry around on their person and in their pouches.

Which brings us to the matter at hand: superhero pouches. You'd expect heroes like Hawkeye and Deadpool to have a pouch of some sort since they use items and weapons to help them take down their opponents. However, in Ultimate Alliance 3, some of the heroes mentioned above, as well as quite a few others have been given pouches; heroes who don't use anything other than their supernatural abilities. So, what on Earth are they keeping in their pouches?

Dr. Strange, for example. The Sorceror Supreme has the ability to open up a portal and effectively reach in and grab whatever he needs in that moment. What could the doctor possibly need to keep on his person at all times? Well, we know he was the keeper of the Time Stone in the MCU, but we're hoping the "spell" that protected it from Thanos' reach for so long wasn't it being tucked away in Strange's pouch. Perhaps it's just filled with various ingredients he might need for spells. He is a wizard, right...?

Captain Marvel is another hero who doesn't need any bells and whistles to get the job done. The Kree's powers are all-natural, so the presence of her pouch in Ultimate Alliance 3 is even more confusing than Strange's. We'd like to think that the pouch isn't for Marvel, but is for her non-hero alter ego, Carol Danvers. Perhaps there's a photo of Goose the Cat in there along with other mementos that motivate one of Marvel's most powerful heroes to rid the universe of all evil.

For as long as Bruce Banner has been turning green and becoming The Incredible Hulk, people have jokingly questioned why Banner's trousers don't tear off of his body when he transforms. Well, because if they did, your children would be watching movies and reading comics that feature a massive, green, naked man. Would that be okay with you? What if his pouch remained intact and covered his modesty? Honestly, that's the only reason we can think of for Banner's angry alter ego needing a pouch. Don't worry if you haven't yet played Ultimate Alliance 3, Hulk doesn't fight naked, we promise.

Unless these pouches make the jump to the above heroes' movie counterparts, why they exist and what they are carrying around in them will probably never be revealed. Honestly, we're actually okay with that. We think that speculating about what might be hidden within them is a lot more fun than the reality. The likelihood is that they are S.H.I.E.L.D. issued and our heroes have to wear them as part of a uniform, and that's no fun at all.
