We’ve known that Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite was on the way since its first reveal, way back in December last year. Fast forward six months (give or take a couple of days), and a few little info-nuggets have started to fall from Capcom’s tree. The latest of which, sadly, is liable to disappoint many fans of the crossover fighter.
The game is slated for a September 19 release (PC, PS4 and Xbox One). With just a few months to go, it’s time to start fueling the Hype Train in earnest, to get our eyes, minds and wallets on board. One thing that’s going to be quite big for fighting fans is the roster; it’s always reassuring and encouraging to know that previous mains and/or favourite characters in general have made the cut. Without further ado, then, almost the entire cast of Infinite has been revealed. Don’t read any further if you don’t want any of this spoiled, obviously.
As VG247 reports, a couple of users over on NeoGAF have blown the full roster wide open. Ryce, a user with a track record for delivering when it comes to Marvel Vs Capcom character leaks, has given us a full roll call: Arthur, Chris, Chun-Li, Dante, Firebrand, Jedah, Monster Hunter, Morrigan, Nemesis, Ryu, Spencer, Strider Hiryu, and Mega Man X make up the Capcom side, while Ant-Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Gamora, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Nova, Rocket/Groot, Spider-Man, Thanos, Thor, and Ultron fill up the Marvel side.
As expected, that’s a lot of MCU characters, hardly a shocker given Marvel’s involvement (as if those movies haven’t already made them enough money to keep Scrooge McDuck happily rolling for life). There are some curious additions here for sure. How will Rocket/Groot work, for instance? Are we talking an odd kind of hybrid character, or a range of attacks aided by Groot assist-style? The Monster Hunter, too, could take all kinds of forms and wield anything lances to bows and arrows. Interesting times for Marvel Vs Capcom fans, for sure.
September 19th looks like it’ll be a period of adjustment for series fans. While there are a lot of returning favourites, there are plenty of all new fighters, and others who are super conspicuous by their absence. The seeming lack of X-Men --while not unexpected-- is a real blow, particularly when some of those characters were real powerhouses (Phoenix, anyone?).
Still, there’s quite a road until launch, and definitely room for a surprise or two. If NeoGAF-er SaikyoBro’s suggested leaked total of 28 in the starting roster is to be believed, that leaves one mystery fighter to be accounted for. Who would you like to see?
