Despite not enjoying the best launch in the world, Marvel's Avengers managed to secure itself a dedicated playerbase. However, recently it seems that the ones that stuck with the game through thick and thin have been thrown under the bus, and they've finally had enough. In light of recent news, many fans are lamenting that the recent Guardians of the Galaxy game is much better - and stands as an example of what Marvel's Avengers could have been.

For some weeks now, the official subreddit has been full of players complaining about the recent addition of pay to win mechanics. And now that many of them have played through Guardians of the Galaxy, they're sharing that Avengers would have benefited from not being a live service, and having less microtransaction.

"After finishing Guardians and actually wanting to go back for the 100% completion, it makes me so sad that this game still isn't that good", shares user AnotherGibaway. "Every time I've wanted to get back in [to Avengers], I've just been told that nothing's improved."

No one in the replies seems to disagree. "Guardians feels like it was made by fans of the material and I am actually enjoying the crew's journey. I felt completely disconnected from Avengers’ campaign", says another response.

User Barachim went further: "GOTG actually made me finally uninstall Avengers. Once I had put several hours into the game, I just had the realization that no matter how long they continue to improve the game, and no matter how much money they pump into it, it will simply never reach its potential. At least not under the current management."

The Marvel's Avengers team will have quite the challenge on their hands winning back the players it did have. Many that are complaining now seem to have been playing frequently since launch, so it's not the same crowd that walked away as soon as it became apparent the game would have live service elements.

On the bright side - for players at least - Guardians is a pretty great alternative. Reviews have been glowing across the board, including our own, where Stacey Henley gave it 4/5. She particularly praised its story and soundtrack, while admitting its combat can feel a bit lacklustre.
