Marvel's Avengers could possibly be out as early as October this year, according to Square Enix chief financial officer Kazuharu Watanabe - but that's only if we're going to be as optimistic as is possible.

Watanabe disclosed this information as part of the company's latest financial briefing, but fans would do well to not get ahead of themselves as no specifics were given. What we know for certain, though, is that the publisher's biggest games won't hit the market until October 2019.

E3 is nearly upon us and leaks are currently rife. It is expected that Watch Dogs 3, Gears 5 and Fable 4 will all be announced and unofficial reveals have come out for all of these games. As for Marvel's Avengers, this latest snippet can't really be considered a leak but the financial statement does give us a bit of a timeframe, albeit a very unclear one.

Apart from an Avengers game, Final Fantasy VII Remake is also in the works. So, while Watanabe has divulged an October 2019 start for releases, nothing's confirmed to come out then; it's just an "at the earliest" sort of thing. His revelation could also mean that none of these games come out until the first quarter of 2020.

"Due to the progress of our development efforts and out of consideration of competitor release schedules, our major launches will take place after midyear of FY2020/3," a section of the statement reads.

"In addition to our major titles, we also have FY2020/3 releases planned for some unique and promising games, including some for smartphones," he added, without specifying which games would drop in each window.

So, in essence, Marvel's Avengers and Final Fantasy VII Remake could launch anytime between October this year and March 2020. Furthermore, if the bit on steering clear of the competition is taken into consideration, it could be deduced that they will release closer to the latter.

Meanwhile, it's not clear whether Square Enix ranks the freshly revealed Outriders game as a major title or if they have any more reveals planned for E3. However, for now, we can expect to have some top titles as options sometime between October and March.
