When Marvel’s Avengers launched, it wasn't exactly the game people expected. Instead of focusing on being a solid superhero adventure, it seemed to have fallen into a lot of the trappings that most of these live service titles tend to fall into. It was released with bare content, other than the main campaign, and an excessive grinding system that left the most enthused players exhausted.

But with the release of the three expansions and new heroes on the roster, Marvel's Avengers offers quite the treasure trove of post-game content. Aside from the expansions, there has been an improvement in overall events from the developers, encouraging people to play on a more consistent basis. From co-op missions to collectible hunting, here's what you can do after saving the world in Marvel's Avengers.

Updated August 31, 2021, by Avery Lawrence Feyrer: Since the posting of this article, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have released three expansions and added three heroes to the roster. These additions have a wealth of post-game content that is now included in the list below.

10 War Zones

Aside from the main, single-player campaign, Crystal Dynamics incorporated an online mode: War Zones. While these zones can still be completed in a single-player aspect, many of the more advanced postgame content is accessed through War Zones. Many mission types take place in several different regions.

Although many of the War Zones' missions can be repetitive, they offer a great opportunity to further grind your characters and complete challenge cards. Completing all of the ones currently in the game will keep you busy, and there are always more being added in the future.

9 Assignments/Faction Ranking

avengers factions

It's not uncommon for live service games to have a sort of faction system, offering missions separate from the main story that can net you resources, currency, or gear. Marvel's Avengers has two factions that you can help: S.H.I.E.L.D and the Inhuman Resistance. The coordinator for S.H.I.E.L.D is Alisande Morales, while the coordinator for the Resistance is Sarah Garza. Each offers similar missions, such as, defeating certain enemy types, collecting specific items, or using special abilities. Most of the time, these assignments are completed without you even realizing it; the hard part is remembering to accept them in the first place.

The benefit to assignments is that they help rank up the faction related to them. Ranking up factions allows players to buy higher-tier gear from their vendors. The ranking system goes pretty high, so be sure to keep checking in with the coordinators for more assignments to gain better gear.

8 Character Grind

A live service game's bread and butter is making you grind for better gear and weapons. It doesn't matter which character ends up being your favorite, odds are you're going to use each of them quite a bit. Once the main campaign rolls credits, A.I.M. is still at large and the Avengers are still needed.

An effective way of leveling up characters is through their challenge cards. Each hero's card offers daily and weekly missions, similar to the same tasks associated with battle passes in multiplayer games. Completing these missions and leveling up the challenge cards will net you rewards in upgradable resources, cosmetic skins, and overall experience points to continue leveling up

7 Play Different Characters

avengers assemble

The beauty of Marvel's Avengers is that the game forces you to play every character. The campaign mostly allows you to choose who you want to be, with Kamala Khan as the de facto main character. But in certain missions, you will be forced to play a specific character. Switching things up and developing a different playstyle with a different character can be just the refresher you need at times.

If you’re a Hulk main that likes getting up in enemies’ grills, try Iron Man and experiment with his flight and ranged options. If you enjoy using Kamala with her crowd control options and self-sustain, try Captain America and experiment with his block and punish options. On top of that, if you're a completionist you'll need to play every character to unlock the individual cosmetic skins and other hero-specific trinkets.

6 Achievement/Trophy Hunt

Regardless of the game, achievement and trophy hunters will do to great lengths to unlock these collectibles. For some, it's an official validation that they not only played the game but exceeded the expectations of the developers who made it. When it comes to Marvel's Avengers, there are quite a few that can only be unlocked after you beat the game.

A Surprise Every Time

While it's certainly possible to complete some of these achievements before you beat the game (if you put the main story on the back burner), but odds are you'll power through the campaign rather quickly. The main campaign only clocks in around 11 hours, so there's a high chance most of these achievements won't be unlocked after you finish the game.

5 HARM Room Training

As with anything in life, practice makes perfect. Most players might blow off the tutorial in the helicarrier, itching to get right in the fight, so they might miss out on rewards earned only through those missions. The HARM room challenges on the helicarrier offer tutorials for each member of the Avengers, awarding you a comic after completion.

Not only can you get a basic understanding of each character's abilities and skillsets, but you can also experiment with the different enemy varieties in the game to hone your skills. The challenges themselves are predetermined though, so you won't be able to create specific situations, but it's better than nothing.

4 Collectible Hunt

avengers collectibles

For players that idolize the Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy will be happy to know there are tons of collectibles to be found in Marvel's Avengers. The game has several collectible types to explore: codex and intelligence files with information on enemies, locations, and in-game events, audio files that add more context to the game world, and comics that give attribute boosts but are also just cool to look at.

Getting all of these little tidbits and knick-knacks will take some time though. Some can be found throughout the general environment or locked away in strongboxes, while others are mission rewards. Regardless, to obtain all the collectibles available in Marvel's Avengers, prepare to explore every inch of it.

3 Play Higher Difficulties

For players that want a challenge, you can go back and play missions on higher difficulties. On the contrary, if you're looking for a more relaxed experience, try playing the campaign again on an easier difficulty. Marvel's Avengers has a criminally underrated narrative that should be enjoyed by all.

If you're hellbent on pushing your limits, playing on higher difficulties is a way to add a little extra spice. It’s a good way to a bit of replay value, though the missions will still be as repetitive as the first play-through.

2 Omega-Level Threats

avengers super adaptoid

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix added Omega-Level Threats into Marvel's Avengers in July 2021, which was supposed to be the hardest activity ever seen in the game. The event required a full four-player strike team with each character at least Power Level 145, though the maximum of 150 is recommended. You and your strike team are tasked with taking down the ultra-powerful Super-Adaptoid, which harnesses the powers of Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America.

While this is yet another good piece of postgame content, some were left a bit disappointed by the addition. One of the more obvious letdowns was the fact that the Omega-Level Threat mission was far too similar to the mission in the Kate Bishop DLC, Taking A.I.M., and so it felt that this content wasn't truly "new." Regardless, this is another activity on the list to cross out for players with near-maxed Avengers.

1 Play Expansions

Since the release of Marvel's Avengers, we have seen three expansions added to the game: Taking A.I.M., Future Imperfect, War for Wakanda. In each of these expansions, a new hero was added to the roster for Earth's Mightiest: Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, and Black Panther.

Not only are each of the expansions offer great narrative post-game content, but being able to learn new abilities and master different skillsets is welcomed. By now, players may have gotten tired of the original six that launched with the game, but the two Hawkeyes and the King of Wakanda add new wrinkles to the gameplay. The next hero on deck still appears to be Spider-Man by the end of 2021.
