Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a little bit of an enigma in today's superhero-obsessed world. The game is based on what is arguably one of Marvel's most popular properties and it reviewed incredibly well when it launched last year. Despite both of these, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy didn't meet Square Enix's sales expectations, but it was recently revealed that the game has been given a new life thanks to Xbox Game Pass.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Guardians of the Galaxy senior creative director Jean-Francois Dugas and senior narrative director Mary DeMarle were questioned on the game's disappointing performance. According to Dugas, the team "did everything we could" to help the game perform, but are at least happy the game is "finding its audience" after its addition to Xbox Game Pass. No player statistics were given, but it's assumed that they're quite impressive for it to be brought up unprompted in an interview about the game's performance.
Microsoft will be hoping that Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is popular on the service anyway, considering the amount of money the publisher reportedly paid Square Enix to get the game on there in the first place. MST Financial senior analyst David Gibson made headlines at the end of March for estimating that Microsoft must have paid between $5 - $10 million for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy alone, giving us a slight idea as to how much money Xbox is spending to make Game Pass so alluring.
A bunch more interesting info about Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has been revealed today, including scrapped plans for a portion of the game to take place on Halfworld and dive deeper into the backstory of Rocket Raccoon. In the end, the segment was "cut relatively early in production" due to the game becoming too "bloated."
