Fans of Marvel's Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 might have caught a blink-and-y0u'll-miss-it shout out towards the end of the latest MCU movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is the latest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first movie in the franchise to take place after Avengers: Endgame and its five-year time jump. In it, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is touring Europe with his classmates when he encounters odd, elemental monsters, and a mysterious new hero devoted to stopping them. The movie is receiving positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

It's not receiving quite the acclaim that last year's Marvel's Spider-Man received. That game, exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 4, was an immense success. It followed a slightly older Peter Parker, one who's out of high school and an experienced crime-fighter in his own right. Despite having been at the hero game for several years by the time the game's story begins, that Peter still takes time to goof around a little. He high fives passers-by on the street, invents the character of "Spider-Cop," and takes selfies from the highest rooftops in Manhatten.

SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME FOLLOW.

In fact, it's those selfies that are the point where the movie currently in theatres and the video game cross over. Near the very end of Far From Home, Spider-Man is thwipping his way around New York, texting his new girlfriend MJ, when he happens to take a mid-air selfie. He strikes a pose - giving the peace sign - and swings on. This is undoubtedly a reference to Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4.

In the game, the player, as Spider-Man, is encouraged to use the game's Photo Mode to take snapshots of famous landmarks around town. In addition to snapping Avengers Tower and the Empire State Building, the Photo Mode can also be used for taking selfies. Spider-Man will strike a different pose, depending on what he's doing - sometimes he'll make a heart sign if he's mid-air, show off his moves while in melee with enemies, and when he's perched somewhere, he'll throw a peace sign.

This Doesn't Mean Spider-Man PS4 And Far From Home Are In The Same Universe

But it does reinforce something important to the Spider-Man mythos - there are many universes, and many Peter Parkers, but he's always going to be the same goofy kid, no matter what his Earth looks like. Except for when he's Spiders-Man, the millions of spiders in a suit, masquerading as Spider-Man. It's... a long story.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is playing now.
