As if Insomniac Games wasn’t kicking ass and paving the way for the PS5 already, the recent PlayStation event showed us that the studio has no signs of stopping. Spider-Man Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart were the first two games from the studio to make it to the console, and we can only assume that newly announced Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine will be even better, as Insomniac will have more time to get the best out of the console.

Other than God of War, the announcement trailers for these two games were by far the highlight of the showcase. However, there was a tiny detail in the Wolverine trailer that fans may have missed. To be honest, as soon as there was a shot of a shady bar after the Marvel logo, you had to assume that it was Wolverine; the flannel shirt and the cowboy hat pretty much confirmed it before the knuckle shot and the ‘snikt’ of his claws.

As spotted by GamesRadar, during the shot of Wolverine’s back, we see the bar counter with a number of bottles and curios in the back. However, there was also a licence plane which read “HLK 181". It doesn’t take an avid comic book fan to realise that this is a reference to the Hulk, the 181 refers to issue Hulk #181, in which Wolverine made his first appearance.

While it would be awesome to see the emerald giant in the game, it seems quite unlikely. If this has got you buzzing for more information, you’re unfortunately in for a long wait. After the showcase, Ryan Schnieder, head of franchise strategy and studio relations at Insomniac Games said, "Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special."

“So many of the Insomniac team are such huge fans of the character, and one of the key elements that drew us to him is surprisingly not that different from Spider-Man: Both heroes feel deeply compelled to defend people who are less able to do so,” continues Schnieder.

Insomniac hasn’t provided a release date, or any other details about the game as of yet.
